Toast some pine nuts too and sprinkle them over the mash. Yummy!

runner beans

Lots of savoy cabbage and onion gravy with a good splodge of port in it.

Any of the above.

Or broccoli. Cheesy broccoli nicer imo than cauli-cheese.

Fried onions and mushrooms

Beans (baked or green)

Fresh peas

peas, definitely.

Please don't serve salad with mash! My mother used to do this. <shudder>

Yes, I'd go for some greens and a nice gravy. I'm liking the savoy cabbage / port gravy suggestion particularly.

Giant yorkshire pudding and onion gravy!

kenobi Mon 01-Aug-11 15:11:08

Another vote for some nice irony broccoli, spinach or greens. Chard would be good.

oh i like all those suggestions and for some reason hadnt thought through the "salad and mash" thing, yes yuck,it had given me the giggles just thinking about it. Will defo do peas and mushrooms,dd doesnt like either so she can have her usual broccoli.

You don't want to disguise the taste of sweet potato with gravy. You want peas!
