Are silicon cake moulds any good?

Am thinking about making a cake using this bear mould.

I am not terribly proficient at this kind of thing. My skill is outweighed by my enthusiasm smile

Do they work? How much sponge mixture would I need? Any tips?

Thanks

You have to oil them quite thoroughly, I've found, in order to get said cake out in one piece. I learnt this the hard way with a madeleine mould...I guess for an ordinary sponge cake, you could brush the inside of the mould with melted butter for the same effect.

I use that Lakeland Cake Release stuff with silicone moulds and have never had a problem. Great stuff.

Agree with ChrissasMissis you definately need to oil them. I think you're also meant to wait until the sponge cools down a bit before taking them out of the mould.
