noddyholder · 22/07/2011 10:10

I have a voucher and a free delivery for waitrose and I rarely shop there. Any recommendations for partic good stuff. I have my brother coming next week for 5 days so am going to use it to cover the stuff I will need for when he is here? Not vegi and possibly looking for 'special' stuff we wouldn't always have!

Heston's salted caramel popcorn ice cream is good. Their New York Cheesecake is pretty good too.

Oh, and delivery is always free and it's not much more expensive to shop there anyway for branded stuff!

they do a delicious chilli marinated fresh beetroot.
Obvs, the nice ham!
Also if you were lazy like me, they do delicious ready made chilli beef burgers. Really good on bbq.

They do lovely shredded ham hock and beef in the cooked meats department.
The Heston beef burgers are great, but v expensive.

A couple of times on the asda price check my shopping would've been cheapest at waitrose! Check out mysupermarket.com

They have a tomato and garlic flatbread which is really tasty, never had another as nice.

Shock delivery is free?! I sometimes use ocado and they charge a fortune.

Their fish and meat is good.

mini satay sticks and yummy.

I think you have to go in and wander round though really.

(I also, bizarely find my shopping cheaper at waitrose - perhaps because we don't buy branded food?! It's very odd)

I love the fresh nachos in the fridge department.

Ocado compared to Waitrose Deliver are shite, IMO. WD have no delivery charges and stock about 10 times as much as Ocado. I would never use Ocado, waste of space.

The frozen pain au chocolat are the dogs, btw. And I love the Kallo Parmesan breadsticks.

I am half shopping half looking here! It all looks similar price to sainsburys and some things quite good value.

Waitrose deliver is free if you order more than £50, which is their minimum order anyway. And the people that deliver it are lovely!

Waitrose Deliver only deliver within a certain radius of their stores. Ocado have different catchment, afaik.

noddy - the essentials range is very good value, and not at all bad quality.

I have learned something today :)

I have now added this to the list of Things I've Learned from MN.

I use Ocado and had no idea that WD was free!

Where I come unstuck with both Ocado and Waitrose though is that whilst the essential stuff is price matched to Tesco and so not too expensive, I get lured into buying all sorts of delicious luxury stuff not stocked in my local Tesco / Sainsburys.

Ocado cost me £103 this week, because I have zero willpower.

The veg selection is pretty spectacular including some of the rare heritage spuds. Some stores do local veg which has taste, Baby veg are great too for a dinner party.

Some of the puddings are great - Duchy selection very nice sure I had lemon tart once.

Willys chocolate, vanilla paste, clarence court eggs including the duck, fresh bread, real ale and beer selection, wine selection are superior to any other supermarket, at least they do the top end.

I have to travel to a waitrose but always a bonus when passing!

I did one Ocado shop once (not Waitrose, can't get them here), when I had a voucher. Mostly bought special offers, plus a few things I couldn't easily get anywhere else, & it compared well on mysupermarket.com.

(I priced an Aldi shop there today though; Aldi shop, mostly produce, store cupboard stuff, chilled & wine was £69 - Ocado came out at £135!!!)

they also do the best pasta - fill - your - own container - things with salad and taters and pasta and cous cous etc etc =- but i suspect that doesn't apply to home delivery!!

Leckford Mill Bread flour, recommended by top bakers and a Waitrose special is very good.

Their stonebaked baguette is heavenly too.
