Cake decorating help - stacking cakes for DS' baptism cake

I'm making DS's baptism cake (madeira sponge covered and decorated with fondant) but I've never stacked cakes before. I am quite clear about using dowels and appropriate cake cards but I was wondering if you use something like buttercream between the two tiers? Also, would you transport the cake already stacked or stack the cakes at the venue?

No idea about the buttercream - I would think not as if you got a smudge somewhere it would get bits stuck to it.

Definitely stack the cakes at the venue.

buttercream isn't needed.if you use dowels and assemble at the venue you will be fine
