KING PRAWNS - defrosting and deveining! Help!!!

I got them out of the freezer this morning and placed them in the fridge on a plate (covered with cling film of course to defrost). They've been in the fridge since 8 this morning and still frozen solid, and my freezer's not even that cold!

I need to prepare them for a starter tonight, for around seven thirty pm.......

Should I leave them in the fridge till then, I'm worried they won't defrost in time, plus I'm supposed to be marinating them before frying them?

Also, they've got black lines running down the inside of them, is that what I need to devein?

I'm worried about poisoning people, and seeing as I don't eat seafood myself am a little concerned

I'd defrost them in cold water- just keep changing it regularly. (And don't be tempted to use hot water to speed the process up- then you will be in food poisoning territory!)

Yes, the black line/tube is the bit that needs deveining.

Place in a colander and run them under cold water; will thaw very quickly IME.

You shouldn't have put them in the fridge.

Put them in a plastic bag and run cold water over them until they thaw.

So if I do that about six thirty, leave them in the fridge till then, would that be alright do you think?

Does it matter that they've been out of the freezer and in the fridge all day?

Italianlady, I know, I didn't think about cooking from frozen, but on the packet it said defrost in the fridge for at least eight hours....? confused

I'd run under water now and put back in the fridge until you need them later.

Solo! Dont go! One more question - how do I devein them?

Also, just checked on them and they now look like they are actually defrosting - so I think they will be okay after all

Oh and if you choose to leave them to thaw in the fridge and they're not quite done when you want to use them, just run under the cold water.

Well spotted - how's that work then?
Peas, I should think yours have already been de-veined - if they have a slit down the back which curls over when they're cooked that's where the vein has been removed.

Tbh, I've never come a cross them with a vein.
