How many of your 5-a-day have you had today?

How many have your DC(s) had?

I reckon I've had 7 (handful raisins, a banana, an apple, pumpkin soup, large salad, a pear)

Same for DCs

Is that a normal day for you Makemine?

I've had:
banana with breakfast (1)
Tomato with lunch (1)
Salad with dinner (1)

Has lasagne for dinner - do the peppers / tomatoes / mushrooms in that count?

NO IDEA what my DCs have had - they're big grumpy teens now, and don't share that information with me...

Most days I think I get 5-10 as I prefer to have some form of fruit or veg with every meal.
Typical day would be like this:

Fruit juice/banana/dried fruit in or with breakfast, sometimes all.

Snacks: often include apple or dried fruit

Lunch: always contains salady things like lettuce in sarnie and raw veg on the side

Dinner: always two or more veggies included, always use loads of onions and tomatoes and try to have something with beans or lentils a couple of times a week.

My DDs don't have as much as I I think it's hard to fit in as much bulk with a tiny tummy... they do get their 5 portions I think though. Banana at breakfast, dried or fresh fruit at snacks, eat their veg at dinner, and pick at salady bits with lunch.

So far today, I've had 2- raisins on porridge and a banana mid-morning.

Lunch is home made veg and lentil soup so how many portions would that be? Say 2?

Then fresh pineapple after lunch

Dinner is fish with roasted vegetables and ratatouille- so say another 2 portions?

So 6 or 7.

Ooh, good question.

It's 10pm here.

Breakfast: toast, coffee. None.
Lunch: Ham salad Subway sandwich - er, two, probably?
Dinner: Prawn and asparagus risotto with silverbeet and onion. Maybe two, if I'm generous.
Small piece of watermelon shoved in mouth by toddler. Doesn't count, i'm thinking.

Blush

I'm still on 0 Hmm

How bad is it if you don't eat your 5 a day anyway?

I've had five so far and will snack on a couple of satumas later (banana at breakfast, mangetout at lunch, apple for snack, lots of mixed salad for dinner).

It is a rare day that I don't get my five.

I've had way more than 5.
Fruit for breakfast, veggie sticks and dip for lunch, fish and salad for tea.

DCs - hmm, probably less! Blush They had fish & chips for tea as a treat after parents evening.

Do chips count as veg? Grin

Report
winnybella · 09/11/2010 21:54

Hmm.

2 grated carrots with lunch.
half a large pear
peas with dinner
2 or 3 clementines

5 or 6 then? Does a clementine count as half or one? Usually eat less fruit, more veg, but not always 5.

DS- don't know, had a school dinner and then peas with dinner. Usually though he eats a few apples after school.

DD-half a pear, few peas. She's been on strike for the last few days.

I think I've had 3 - banana, couple of kiwis and a veggie bolognese.

Bit surprised by how much some people eat. For cherry tomatoes you have to eat 7 for a portion - discovered that yesterday.

Children vary between 1 (ds2 nightmare to feed) and probably 5 (dd2 loves veg).

Hmm. Me: None at breakfast, 2 apples and a banana at elevenses/lunch/afternoon snack, butternut squash soup for lunch. So thats 4.

DC - none at breakfast, satsuma each for lunch, broccoli with tea, melon/pineapple for pud and apple snack for DS at bedtime. So 3-4 but quite a lot of some helpings so not that bothered. And they regularly have it in juice/smoothie form too. It evens out.

I wonder if it has something to do with one's bodyshape/weight. I am trying to lose weight so I 'fill up' on fruit and veg which are lower in calories. If I was thin as a rake I wouldn't eat half as much fruit, Id be mainlaining Galaxy instead.
