Flouncers' corner

SOME PEOPLE ON MUMSNET ARE SO RUDE

And it pees me right off. You write a perfectly innocent comment and people think they can just pounce on you. I've seen it so many times. People say nasty things they'd never say if they were looking in someone's face. They forget that there is actually a HUMAN BEING on the other end of their remarks.

I've been on here long enough to know that that is the way mumsnet works, but it doesn't make it right.

There should be a section for people who just want to have a polite conversation.

flounce flounce flounce flounce flounce

And they're cliquey.

flounce

And no, I'm not drunk.

NB: the fact that I've had no sleep for a fortnight has no bearing on this post WHATSOEVER.

I never understand why new mums get so criticised on here for worrying about their children.

Because of m/net and some friends I actually went to my GP as I thought I may have PND (I do worry about DD a lot), my GP smiled (smugly) and said it was completely natural and that she would be more concerned if I was not anxious, precious!! (not GP's word) or controlling.

I really think people need to chill about others peoples parenting styles

I dont even need nicey nice, just some tolerance would be ok!

Very cool, you come across posters who you others wise don,t bump into.

nice? nice?

Oh yes, I think you'll find that happens here.

October 12, 2004 I think it was.

polite conversation only allowed in, I think, the bar (or The BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR as they call it! ) and the sanctuary. So look out for those threads and butt in.

Although I've tried a couple of times and they ignored me. But I think that's cos they don't much like me. I'm sure you'd be fine!

IKWYM

I made a comment on a thread about the Olympics, and said I found it boring. Someone just pounced on me in a really rude way, I mean that just my opinion!!!

Worse is when one of your sentences is copy and pasted and then just mullered.

I agree. You're posting something relevant to the thread you're on and someone gets all offended for no reason. I was on a thread about parents being disapproving of pg before marriage. All I said was that my parents forget that married men can leave a lady in the lurch just as much as a live-in partner, next thing someone's ranting at me that being married is aperfectly valid choice, her marriage is fine, and that just because a man is married, doesn't mean he will cheat. FFS talk about oversensitive! And try keeping my post in context next time.

oooh, this turned into a major flounce as well pregnancy induced insomnia and hormones have nothing to do with this I'm sure

I think a lot of people come on to mumsnet because they are peed off wth RL, so will tend to be snappy. They can be narky here rather thatn with their DC's or MIL, DH or who ever.

You are doing a public service by being snapped at on here.

some folk just love a MN scrap, they salivate at a spelling mistake or comment they can twist

But really ignore it. switch off and switch off

the anonymous nature means some are more contentious because they can be. NO RL recriminations

It's actually quite depressing when you think about it.

THIS is how a large number of people would be if there were no consequences for them.

Rude, spiteful, petty...

It is only fear of repercussions NOT because they are nice, that makes them be nice in rl. Take away the repercussions and whammo..insta-bitch.

Scary.

i am not so sure that what happens on anonymous forum necessarily could be replicated and happen RL.

i imagine most posters would not be so vociferious i think it happens because it is anonymous chat board, bit of pack mentality, someone starts a humphy response the rest pile in

thing is it can be so arbitrary.i have seen people post innoccous comments and get derided and pasted. other times posters can spout the most vaccous shallow indignant tosh (usually about the ole perennials and get away with it)

so the pack mentality and reverting back to argumentative ole mantras is prevalent

but well that is chat boards for you

Kind of like what happens when you get a large group of football hooligans together then?

Riot and beatings?

Report
hughjarssss · 26/08/2008 09:55

I think it very much depends on certain posters.
If a regular and well known MNer gives a strong response to you're thred then everyone else feels like they can jump on the bandwagon.

Report
hecate · 26/08/2008 09:57

So anonymous people just post someone else's opinion? A strangers opinion?

[boggle]

Why?

Report
scottishmummy · 26/08/2008 09:57

MN is so mixed.sometimes hold dem firey torches high mentality.sometimes kind and emapthic

riot and beatings - an initiation ceremony really

yu know you have arrived when someone gets humphy and accuses you of being rude etc

Report
hughjarssss · 26/08/2008 09:58

no one is MN elite.as good/bad as your current post.i hate the suckass who is your fave MNetter sychophantic threads. wet boak

tbh i dont actually recall MN after i switch off, certainly dont hold MN grudges

i do recognise some posters prolifically post about certain topics, some a bitty over zealous. but hey no biggie

some of us aren't though - I think I have only been rude in response to an unjustified attack. I have had my fair share of rudeness though, so I do get where you're coming from.

zippitippitoes · 26/08/2008 10:08

a lot of people post the same thing because they hold the same opinion on that topic

not because someone else posts it

there arte mns i love and respect that i never hold the same opinion as

and conversely there are folk i donty partic have much truck with but do agree with onb various thingas

i dont keep records

and i would never do smooching

i dont think many if any people do

what would be the piont tbh

and my memory is not that good either i dont usually remember anything from day to day

yesterday my bf said where can we buy sandwiches

i said i dont know is tesco open on a saturday

this is the le vel of my grasp on rl

so my grasp of mn is a lot less

Report
hughjarssss · 26/08/2008 10:09
