Flouncers' corner

farewell, all, from vezzie

I don?t think anyone knows who I am but I am going to write a Flouncing Manifesto anyway so that I have a record that I resolved to bugger off (for now at least) and get some other stuff done.

Here is why I am buggering off:

The feminist section is boring, now, and I am offended by mn?s general clueless treatment of it.
It's not that it is not feminist enough, because I accept that mn is not a feminist space and all are welcome. It's that it is stupid and boring because genuine analysis has been treated as dangerous and inappropriate. Which is not to say that there is nothing interesting on there, there is, and lots of good posters, but it's dominated by trite waffle, which may be notionally PARD but actually offensive to anyone with half a brain cell.

It depresses me overall how unfeminist mainstream society is and this is most poignantly apparent on a site populated mostly by women, speaking their minds as bluntly as people tend to do online (the bluntness is not a problem, the women-having-a-go-at-women-for-not-meeting-patriarchal-standards is, it is boring and depressing)

On that note: the more I hang around here, the higher the chance that I will aimlessly drift onto a thread where some poor soul who was just looking for a bit of sympathetic chat is being slagged off by hatchet faced scrubbers for not being some kind of superwoman, and I hate all that, and if I just go away completely I won?t find myself reading it by mistake, ever again.

The low-carb threads are great but I know how to low-carb now and I need to stop obsessing. Thankyou for all the support but I would prefer to let that side of my life run itself for a bit if possible.

Hardly anyone ever goes to the spa any more. I would love to chat to all former spa-dwellers but clearly they aren?t there so that is not a possibility.
I have too much to do to be doing anything that is not good for me, or someone else!

So all the best, everyone.

I wish you weren't leaving, and I think it's a shame.

Sorry about the trite waffle.

Darling, please don't. That poster has an agenda to make normal feminists fuck off, I'm almost convinced. She behaved the same way under her previous name, before she 'converted' to feminism. It's just goading. Hide her threads like I do and stay. You've been here years, I don't want to lose you.

Vezzie, I'll be gutted to see you go. :( Please don't de-reg; take a break instead, if need be.

I second BOF's suggestion of hiding her threads. (NOT hiding BOF's threads, that is... hiding the poster in question's thread...)

Don't go vezzie, ffs. I agree with BOF. It is goading, pure and simple. It really, really angers me (more than it should, I should chill out) that someone like that can trip through the threads posting such stirring shit.

You have been here for years, you are a valued and known poster, don't leave.

TBH when I get wound up like this I make a concerted effort to only post on daft as a brush threads about tea towels and the circle line, and avoid the rows.

Please stay. I like your posts. Don't post in the feminism topic for now. But you can be one more small voice of kindness against the hatchet-faced, and that's worth doing.

Thank you everyone! I very much appreciate your kind words. BTW I am not leaving just because of whoever that was who started that thread, I haven't a clue who she is actually, but just that as an example of just - PARD being a superficially unobjectionable benchmark that leads us intellectually and socially nowhere.
Thanks, I really should go, I will probably come back, and thank you for all the interesting conversations. x

Never say never though. Leave it a wile, slope back in with a new name.
