Dogs and Halloween KNOCKING

Hi!
So tomorrow is Halloween! Happy Halloween if you celebrate it!

My dog is a little pug, wouldn't hurt a fly at all and never has done.. Now 3 years old.
I've trained her to bark at the door if she hears a knock, just for personal reasons such as breaking in or even family coming to visit. She doesn't bark nastily, she actually gets excited because she thinks there's someone she knows behind the door.
Trick or treaters will be knocking. I've made a sign that says "my dog will bark at your knock, but don't be afraid. She is friendly and she will be in my arms. And you can even treat her! Thankyou"

Would you still let your child knock?
Thanks in advance!
P s any other reassuring advice would help too x

Would she wear a little pair of devil horns 😈? That would be cute.

Cuteness Quotient aside, is she absolutely bombproof where shrieky children jumping up and down outside in the dark are concerned?
That would be my only concern, that the unfamiliarity Of Trick Or Treating might make her react in a way she wouldn’t usually.
I wouldn’t allow anyone at the door to give her treats tbh. As a dog owner or parent knocking with dc.

I wouldn’t as my son is phobic of dogs . However I would really appreciate your sign and let you give treats to the other children.

Perhaps change the filter in her tank? Wink

I wouldn't bother with the sign personally, most people won't mind barking as long as the dog doesn't run out or jump up at them. Love the idea of a dog costume though. In future you could train her to stop barking if you give the sign to avoid this problem.

We taught our dog to stop barking when we said ‘Thank you’ . Took a few treats but she got there in the end. We say “Who is it?” at any odd noises in the garden or at the front door and she does a very deep Woof. Grin

Thankyou so much for your advice!
Proper durh moment when I sat down with my pumpkin and sweeties.. When I though oh crumbs I've taught her something that will scare children.. Made me feel like an awful doggy parent lol 😅

Haha! Sounds like my Bella!
I wasn't a dog person before I got mine and you literally don't realise how much influence your words you say can affect them.. Even putting your shoes on can mean bloody walkies 😂

@Beth3886

You’ve posted this in the fishnet topic - assuming your dog is the usual canine variety, the doghouse might be a better place...
