frank my male Siamese fighting fish is ill. I have put some pics on my profile in case that helps.

He looked ill, and was not moving, just getting blown around by the filter. Our heater in the main tank stopped working last night, so the water had dropped by a degree or 3!

I have put him in a separate small tank with some bubbles, the temp is now back to normal and he looks a bit more colorful. But he is still not swimming around properly and looks a bit bloated. I have done a water change and also added some aquarium salt. I have run out of testing things and the bloody shop is shut, so i can not test.

I thought he might have dropsy, but whilst i was watching staring intently at him i noticed that his gills are different on each side. if you look at the pics, his left side have a big purple/dark flap under the gills, whereas the right side has not got anything. I have not looked at him quite so well before, so i dont know if this is how he normal is!

What do you think? / suggest?

I as so sad, i love my frank. he is such a grumpy fish!! Sad

Poor Frank :( It's hard to see exactly what's up from the photo but he doesn't look well. How old is he?

How does the inside of his gills look? Can you see anything stuck in there? Is there anything in the tank he could have injured himself on?

If you're concerned about water quality then I'd just do a big change for now and put him back in the main tank- being in a tank with no filtration won't do any good if water quality is a problem. If the flow is too strong then can you aim the outlet at the side of the glass or drop the water level slightly so that it just drops onto the surface?

Do you know how low the temperature dropped?

he died. Sad

everyone else in the tank seems happy enough, the female fighter who frank hated is also ok.

He had got huge! compared to the tiny little thing he was when I got him! And he was so pretty, the pictures do not do him justice at all! He was so naughty, and loved to chase my Huge sailfin molly around the tank!

RIP Frank. you will be very missed! Sad

RIP Frank Sad, i lost my female fighter a few days ago too, she went in a similar way to frank (was poorly for a day, swimming oddly and then died).
