Getting a fish tank made, has anyone done this?

I thought I'd start another thread about this as I was going off on a tangent on my other.

Has anyone had a fish tank made for them? Who would I ask, would it be a glazier who does window repairs and similar? Does anyone have an idea of the cost for a small tank?

Thank you for reading!

You need to use an aquatic shop as the glass needs to be specific strengths etc to hold the water.

Go to //www.cityaquaticscardiff.co.uk they are really good and will arrange delivery uk wide (not just in Cardiff).

A local glazier made my large tank from 12 mm glass and used a special sealant, its is 8x3x2 and cost £120 delivered .The glass used was large pieces from broken shop windows that were recycled. Any glazier can build one but make sure the glass is thick enough, well braced and that the sealant used is the correct type.

I suppose it depends what size you are talking, if it's just a little 80 litre thing that just needs to a be a certain shape then I would ask if a local glazier has any experience making fish tanks. As Bureni said, they need to use the right glass and sealant.

If it's something larger then I'd get a specialist to do it.

Thank you all once again for your advice. Its a small tank, probably about 20l for a Betta, I'll have a call around local glaziers. That'll be tank number 5, I'm getting a little hooked!

I will also check out the cardiff shop, but I'm keen for someone to come and measure it themselves as it has to fit into a hole in the wall so there is no room for error in the measuring

20 litres is too small for any fish really, how about just planting it up?

I've just had a look and I think I can make it 30l possibly 40l, we already have a Betta in a 20l tank so was going to do the same. I will make the tank as big as I can as I have some room at the back where I can make it bigger - this is why I need it made to size, Eau do you think I can still only have a Betta if it is 30l/40l?

40 litres would be OK, 30 litres pushing it a bit. Personally I never go smaller than 45 litres for fish although some fishkeepers do.
