Right, I've just checked imdb - it does look interesting.

However, I then checked Rotten Tomatoes and it seems the film is a bit depraved and dull in parts.

Yes, definitely interesting.

Is there anyone 'good' in it?

I just read a hilarious 'review' of the film on the daily mail website - by someone who hasn't seen it

who's a film critic

and when he described the actual plot of the film did not describe what made it so awful

but described it as loathsome and immoral anyway

wank-stain

I read a bit about it where the director was going on about how important the scene was where the heroine cuts her clitoris off with a pair of scissors.

Not going to be a U is it?

I do like Willem Defoe - very sexy.

a friend saw it at the edinburgh film festival and loved it, but said it was the stuff of nightmares. i also read a review that said the critic couldn't work out if gainsburg and defoe are really good or really bad actors. despite having a wee crush on willem defoe, i kind of understand what they mean.

The Daily Mail rant really sold it to me

I think the director is a horrible misogynist wanker.

it sounds horrible. I hate gore & violence and I hate pretention. So it sounds right up my street

agree that his attitude to women is fucked up, but i loved "breaking the waves".

you couldn't get any more pretentious than "dogville", but again, i found it quite compelling viewing.

I hope no one goes to see it. The man's depraved.

This review's comment about the point of the BBFC is interesting....
"The nastiness, meanwhile, is so nasty that it leaves one wondering what the British Board of Film Classi fication (BBFC) thinks it is for"
