Doesn't look as if it's going down all that well in the US.

Not sure they could better the 1980's TV series tbh. I got it out while on maternity leave (before dd was born) and watched it again - is superb.

The book is one of my favourites and a good point on the IMDB website is that the book is quite complex and detailed, lots happens and it will be hard to fit all that into a film of 2 hours or whatever. In the 12 hours of the TV series there was plenty of time to fit everything in.

Is the series good?

I bought it on VHS from a charity shop as I want to make sure I enjoy it before splashing out on the dvd boxset.

I love the series.

I watched bits of it at the time but I was only about 10 so probably didn't appreciate it fully.

Enjoyed watching it all over a couple of days on DVD.

Am not likely to see the new film version, have opted instead to re-watch my box set of the wonderful orginal 1981 tv series. The moment I put it on I fell in love with it all over again.

Really love this line of dialogue from the first episode

"Beware of Anglo-Catholics--they're all sodomites with unpleasant accents."

Ok, I haven't read the book or seen the tv series so maybe I'm missing something, but I saw the film yesterday and it reeked! Rarely have I ever been so BORED. Who, in this day and age, gives two shits about the problems of massively overprivileged toffs whinging about Catholic guilt? For over two hours, I might add.
