I want my kids to join an orchestra. Are there any films I can show them that make being in an orchestra/brass band/any band look fun?
Thanks!

Almost Famous 😂 not sure that’s one to show them if they’re little though.

Josie and the Pussycats.

Mr Holland's Opus is sweet little film about playing music in a school orchestra and the life enhancement that comes from engaging with music.

Lol @ not Whiplash. Cracking film though.

I second Mr Holland's Opus. One of my favourite films. Seriously underrated.

Prepare for happy tears!

Singles, though that's more about being in a grunge rock band. Very funny though!

@DogsSausages

Young Musician of the Year. Do your dc want to join an orchestra.do they already play musical instruments.

They both are new to the piano and are not particularly expressing an interest in joining a band but I think it would be a good way for them to learn music, - they get to try lots of different instruments, and it encourages them to be part of a team. But my son (9) has a strong sense of 'cool' and I really want him to approach it positively. My daughter (7) is generally pretty enthusiastic.

These are brilliant suggestions everyone. Thank you!! Aside from avoiding American Pie (a personal favourite but not quite right for 9 and 7 yos) I've got a good few to go from here.

@HearMeSnore definitely happy tears! Smashing film it is.

OP for piano in particular there's a fascinating documentary on Prime (or it was, anyway) called Set The Piano Stool On Fire. Your dad is a bit young - not because it's inappropriate but because it's quite 'straight' - but your ds might like it. It's about Alfred Brendel, one of the great pianists, and Kit Armstrong who is a young protégée Brendel takes on shortly after he retires. It follows them for a couple of years and it's amazing to watch the young man developing and also to see their relationship and how it's all bound up with their passion for music.

Sing Street is great!
Brassed Off might be too mature for them as well, but that’s really what banding is about.

Wish there were more films about being in a band. It holds some of my greatest memories.

The new Bill and Ted - Bill and Ted Face The Music - is really daft but quite funny and entertaining. It has a really heart-warming/unexpected ending with a great message.
agree Brassed Off is great too.

Probably not The Dirt about Motley Crue, but that did look like that would be a bit of a hoot 😉.

The Blues Brothers!

Best film ever about being in a band. They'll love it - the dancing, the music, the humour, the massive car chase.

I think it's my all time favourite film Grin

Anvil. Fabulous documentary about an influential but little-known metal band.
