Parasite or The Gentlemen - Valentines Day cinema trip

DH has taken the day off on Friday so we have a very rare chance to go to the cinema. I used to be a huge film buff, but since our twins were born we’ve managed about three cinema trips (one aborted trip on my birthday, as one of the twins got chicken pox and we got a call as soon as we sat down!). Usually too knackered in the evening to watch a whole film!

Anyway, the two films on at the right time are Parasite and The Gentlemen.

Really really want to see Parasite but wondering if it’s going to be a bit too heavy going for a relaxed morning at the movies!

If you’ve seen both, which would you choose for this occasion?

As long as you don’t mind subtitled films then definitely Parasite. Especially since you say you “really really want to see it”. Both films are great, but with The Gentlemen you know what you’re going to get, whereas Parasite is more unexpected (don’t read spoilers before hand).

No problem at all with subtitles - back in my younger days I used to work for film magazines and I’d always get chucked the world cinema. Love Boon Jong-Ho’s films so I’m really looking forward to it - have tried to read as little as possible, so I just wasn’t sure if it would be the kind of film that would tear us a new one emotionally speaking and therefore perhaps not the best choice for a nice day out together!

I definitely have an idea of what The Gentleman will be, and I’m sure it’s a lot of fun. Probably less necessary to see at the cinema though?

The Gentlemen is definitely a lot of fun. I was surprised at how entertaining I found it actually, as it wouldn’t have been my first choice beforehand. If you do choose it then I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Parasite is darkly comedic too though, and I’d be surprised if anyone found it overly emotional. It’s more comedy/drama/thriller. It also gave me and DH a lot more to talk about after watching it than after The Gentlemen 🙂

Once you overcome the one-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you'll be in for a treat with Parasite.

I don’t understand the dislike of subtitles - they’ve never bothered me!

We did see Parasite, it was bloody fantastic. Good shout :)

Ooh glad to hear it - we’re going to see it tomorrow evening - our cinema is finally showing it, after it won the Oscar - perhaps they realised that people in our town can actually read Hmm
