Anyone going?

Already been?

Critics have slated it but that means nothing - they slated Bohemian Rhapsody and I went 3 times!

Im going.
Im taking my mum as we both want to see it.
Im fed up listening to critics.
Ive avoided going to cinema for so many movis due to bad reviews only to watch them on telly later and love them n then be mad at myself for not seeing it on the big screen.
I think alot of these critics should take the stick out of their proverbials.
Maybe we should set up a Mumsnet movie review forum and give non critic reviews Wink.
Enjoy cats xx

sounds like a plan! I've got an unlimited pass so if it's rubbish I'm not that worried - I've only every walked out of one film in my life and that was Queen and Slim a couple of weeks ago - what a load of rubbish

@NotSorry I have an Unlimited pass too and thought Queen and Slim was dire! I couldn't make it to see Cats yesterday with my "cinema buddies" but they said Cats was just ok. A couple of them said they nodded off for a bit!

@funmummy48 - so glad you said that, everyone on twitter was raving - we gave it 45 minutes and couldn't stick it any longer - glad I didn't pay to see it Xmas Grin

re: cats, I don't mind a little snooze in the cinema 😂

I saw it today and loved it. If you like singing, dancing and cats, then it's a great film.

I love Cats the musical, but did not enjoy the movie. Our cinema has just been upgraded to a Odeon Lux so I enjoyed a nap. Glad we used a meerkat code on Christmas Eve to see it.

haven't seen the theatre version so have no expectations - have unlimited pass so don't mind if it's rubbish

We've just come back from seeing it and we all loved it, even DH. It's a little bit slow to get going, but stick with it. Jennifer Hudson is wonderful - DH and I both had a little something in our eye during Memory. Wink

It wasnt as bad I thought it would be once you get past the first 45 minutes. To start it just seemed very very bizarre then got less so. Dont think it works that well as a film so not surprised it's been received the way it has.
Loved Jennifer Hudson!

We quite enjoyed it - found the weak storyline confusing though

I just felt it could have been far more 'fun.' When it was good, we were loving it, but bits like 'Gus the Theatre Cat', and 'Naming of a Cat' were just 😴 Felt like it needed to end with a real high energy number, the stage show is all about dancing and every time the dancing started, it stopped. Why did every cat have to speak in some weird Eddie Redmayne nervous, stuttery style? Cats are lairy bastards, they're not nervous of anyone.

Just been and really enjoyed it. I too thought Jennifer Hudson was great.

Funnily enough I didn't enjoy the theatre show.

Saw it today. I really enjoyed it!

Thought Francesca Hayward was mesmerising and her movements so feline.
Loved the more up beat numbers and felt there could have been more chorus group choreography - there were some moments that were visually stunning and then they sort of faded away.

(18yo) DD saw it last night. Said she admired it but she probably didn't like it.

I've seen filmed version of the stage production b4 (like 30 yrs ago!) & felt meh about that, so I imagine that's how I'd take this version.

nope, I had no idea what was going, couldn't follow it and was bored. And then Jennifer Hudson sang and I cried.
Really disappointed.

I saw it today and enjoyed it. I've seen the stage show and wasn't overly enamoured so actually preferred this,

However a show with singing, talking cats where DJD picks one each year to be sacrificed die and be reborn is always gonna be a hit weird.

First time I saw it I fell asleep.

Second time was marginally better. Parts were fun.

Thought Judi Dench was dire.
Loved Francesca Hayward.

Hated how much snot and liquid came out of Jennifer Hudson’s nose.....in every single scene.

Saw it last night and it was just too weird to enjoy. To be fair I’m not a huge fan of the musical, with the lack of plot you never really engage with the characters, the songs are mediocre and it gets a bit boring. But lovely best mate wanted to go so I thought I’d give it a try.

The movie just makes the whole thing worse. The CGI is akin to the quality of a snapchat filter, the fur doesn’t move with their faces and sometimes you get the outline of a human ear. The twitching ears and tails seem to be on a timer and are really irritating. Not to mention Dame Judi Dench’s human hand in the final number. The dance scenes don’t make enough of the big screen and are boxed in and forgettable.

Rebel Wilson peeling off her skin to reveal a dress, why? Why do some of the cats wear shoes? How come Idris Elber could teleport but then couldn’t at the end? Did Jennifer Hudson need to be dripping with snot? Why get such a powerful singer to stifle her ability for 90% of the most powerful song in the show by ugly crying? Evidently I just didn’t get it and I was so bored I had time to ruminate on the above.
