Saw it with a friend's 7 year old yesterday and none of us enjoyed it. While Emily Blunt is wonderful, the film and music left me underwhelmed. Anyone else?

Nope, loved it, sobbed & laughed and I was very worried about how it would turn out as a huge fan of the original.

I thought it was good as a sequel but thought that Emily blunt was a bit too firm as Mary P and did not have the same amount of warmth and mischief that Julie A brought to the role.

I loved her as Mary Poppins but found the rest of the casting was odd

I hated lin-Manuel something deeply unpleasant about him
The guy who played Michael banks was so weird, I just didn't get it
Also is Julie Walters the only British actress left who can play housekeeper in films

It was OK, about 40 minutes too long though!
Almost more of a remake/rehash of the original than a sequel.

A nice film but I didn't love it. There were some lovely sequences and it was very atmospheric but I didn't lose myself in it. The casting is fine (imo) though Michael's moustache annoyed me all the way through.

Agreeing with the pp who found it more of a remake than a sequel. Glad I wasn't the only one who found Michael's moustache annoying 😁

Oh no I absolutely loved it too! And I was sceptical since the first one was a childhood favourite. But the DC and I laughed and cried throughout, just loved everything about it.

Absolutely loved it! So many references to the original that it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. I liked the songs tho the originals are hard to beat.

Just got back and I really enjoyed it. I like the little references to the original songs throughout the film and thought the children were sweet but not too much. Although Emily Blunt's accent was a bit annoying and they probably didn't need that section with Meryl Streep however Dick Van Dyke is still a dream.
Did you all spot the original Jane Banks? Wink

No I didn't, Lloyd. Who was it?

In the scene when the lamplighter and Jane are chatting a woman comes up and asks for directions. It is her!!!Grin

Saw it as a family the other day and we all loved it, think it kept to the spirit of the original. We liked the Meryl Streep bit. And I spotted the original Jane.

I did like the Meryl Streep bit. I'd gladly watch that part again.

Meryl Streep was very enjoyable. I completely missed that bit, Lloyd and can't remember it either ☺️

I was pretty indifferent to it but the dc enjoyed it...agree more of a remake, quite nice how it followed the same format. I did fall asleep in the cinema tho so got a little nap out of it, and was pleasantly surprised by the price, £20 for 4 of us

Some parts were quite draggy, though I did love the bit with Meryl Streep. There's this song from there "The Place Where the Lost Things Go" that really got to me though.

I must admit I cried through the song "The Place Where the Lost Things Go"

I loved it all apart from the moustache!! I wish I had downloaded to and listened to the songs for a while before though. I did this with Greatest Showman on the advice of someone else and it made me love it more than I would’ve if I hadn’t (if that makes sense???)

Yes, lovely song, very moving. The little fellow was very sweet singing it to his father. I know what you mean, Drew. It takes a while to get to know and appreciate a soundtrack. Not just me disliking the moustache then Grin

Not sure if it needed to be as long as it was. Did like the songs though. Did think she left rather quickly but guess job done again..sequences were very pretty

They never got the bowl back!

Report
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 29/12/2018 15:36

I thought that the animated sequence was too long. Are you sure about the bowl, LetsGo? Didn't one of them point out the scarf on the wheel or was that before they put the bowl in for repair 🤔

I saw it on Christmas Day. I enjoy it but wasn't wowed, I liked the animated sequence, the call backs to the original and the songs, but felt it dragged and could have been shorter. I also missed Julie Andrews singing voice, Emily Blunt isn't a terrible singer, she's not Russel Crowe bad, but Julie Andrews had such a gorgeous voice few actresses could complete with her.

DH felt it was it was more of a remake than a sequel.

But it was still cracked Fuzzy, so they went to Meryl Streep's can't remember her character name Grinto get it fixed. And they didn't get it back. Well spotted LetsGoSmile

I saw it today and I absolutely loved it. Unashamedly nostalgic, but none the worse for it. I laughed and sobbed in equal measures too! And yes, I spotted the original Jane Banks. Particularly loved how Michael paid his loan off!
