I'm really excited to see this. Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in the same film - what more could a girl want Grin
Anyone else going to see it?

I saw it yesterday. It's great. Lovely music, some great numbers. It all looked beautiful with the costumes and sets.
I adore Hugh Jackman and he was great, I'd forgotten what a lovely singer Zac Efron is. He was really good in it too.
Very enjoyable.

I watched a programme recently that said a lot of actors weren't singing in their films . Zac effron was one of them . 🤔... I'm glad they have auto tuned Hugh because he can be very nasally... that aside I would like to see it .

Was that not Zac singing, I'm devastated.

If this is a thing then it begs the question of why didn't they dub Ryan Goslings singing in La la land.

Can I ask if the film is suitable for a 10 year old please?

There was a documentary about it and a lot of the old film stars were dubbed and yes it is a thing . I had no idea but it was fascinating . A quick google says that Zac 's voice was mixed in with a singers in high school musical . He can s my but doesn't have a massive range .

It's definitely suitable for a ten year old.

We loved it (dds 9 and 11). Dh loved it too especially bit at end when Hugh hands his ringmaster hat to zac and says he's off to spend time with his kids before they grow up (blub)

I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't the Barnum I thought it was going to be (the musical with Michael Crawford) - I love some of the songs from that.

Is it different enough that I'll forget about that?

If you like musicals you will enjoy it - if you hated say la la land avoid, if you love big performances and belting songs it's great. Definitely better on big screen. We all came out of the cinema very happy though dh said he kept expecting people on the bus on the way home to burst into song Grin

Not that keen. It was a bit too polished and dull for me. Please do not compare it to La La Land - it doesn't come close! Hmm I think the songs were very repetitive and too similar, ok I'll get my coat. 3/10 Grin

Um, thanks for the spoiler, kerala. Do I still need to bother seeing it?

Spoiler?! It's all about big song and dance scenes that fact is pretty inconsequential Hmm.

Have been listening to the songs since seeing it and they have really grown on us. Actually prefer more of the songs to the la la land album which imo has 3 good songs but lots we skip, the showman songs are pretty much all good.

3 good songs in La La Land!!! Please remove yourself from this thread! Grin

I adored la la land but find myself only listening to the first couple of songs and the audition. The rest eminently skippable. Dds and I have been listening to the greatest showman (over and over again Grin) not skipping any...

Dd1 claims she prefers it to la la land which is controversial and going abit far imo. Both unmissable films at cinema if you like musicals.

Saw it yesterday, agree there are some great numbers. Zac Ephron ruined it though, unlike the lovely Hugh Jackman who is just brilliant.

We saw it on New Year's Eve and it was fantastic. Hugh Jackman back to his best singing after the debacle that was Le Mis, when he was awful. Zac, I believe, actually did his own singing in this movie, unlike in High School Musicla, when they didn't like his actual singing voice. The girl who played Jenny Lind was dubbed as well, although Rebecca Ferguson did her own singing during filming.

Made me Hmm to see the sneery Guardian reviews totally missing the point of the film. They did the same with Annie. Total failure to read the audience and judging everything with a male hipster gaze.

I loved it. I saw Barnum with Michael Crawford back when it first came out but can remember much about it. This was fantastic and the songs were great.

Really looking forward to seeing this however...DP is petrified of clowns, are there any in it?? I didn't think there would be but he refuses to go 'just in case'
