Me!!! I booked tickets for a cinema an hour and a half away because it was the only one who had it, but I can't frigging wait. Trailer looks so good and I love how divisive it is.

It doesn't have very good reviews, but it looks worth a watch.

Yeah it's the same director as Black Swan which sucked imo.

I shall see it though.

Watched last night, felt quite ill by the end, extremely disturbing, intense and great acting but very confusing and weird. Overall I didn't enjoy it but interesting to see what others think. The reviews are dreadful.

Really looking forward to this. 5 star review from Guardian. Question to those that have seen it re 18 rating. Should I go with teen dd or is it a totes awks film to see with your mother(!)

Not totes awkward at all, if she's 18 its fine. I wouldn't squeeze my 15 or old in.

Itsallabitrubbish I started another thread in here if you want to talk hehe

I have just tried to read the plot of this on Wikipedia, and have given up half way through. It sounds incredibly tedious. I don't think I will bother with this one.

Spoliers

So what the fuck was he? GOD?

Adam shows up in the house, gets sick, has a gaping hole in his chest. So God took a rib from him and made Eve who showed up the next day? Then the warring brothers Cain and Abel?

Just read the plot on Wiki - is it a piss take of the horror genre or really that wanky? Don't think I'll bother. Mind you I thought Black Swan was awful so it shouldn't surprise me that this seems the same.

I walked out about an hour in. It is a combination of really pretentious wankery and let us humiliate and bully a young woman. I assume both of these themes continued to the end.

Black Swan was dire so worried about this one.

Spoilers!

I think this was supposed to be the creation amd corruption of man. Not a horror more a human atrocity film.

I think they were God and mother earth. He creates the earth and then Adam and then Eve from Adams rib.

All the mad people are his crazy religious zealots who do wicked unforgiveable things in the name of serving their master....just as Christians etc did / do.

He doesnt want them to stop as God indeed instructed his followers to.slaughter etc.

He sacrifices his first son.

Then starts all over again.

Piss take on the creation?

I think you are right. I read a review on Variety web-site where some one said they had been handed a card at their screening with this poem on it.

I hated Black Swan

Our mother who art underfoot,
hallowed be thy names,
thy seasons come, thy will be done,
within us as around us,
thank you for our daily bread, our water, our air,
and our lives and so much beauty;
lead us not into selfish craving and the destructions
that are the hungers of the glutted,
but deliver us from wanton consumption
of thy vast but finite bounty,
for thine is the only sphere of life we know,
and the power and the glory, forever and ever amen

That's really interesting with the poem.

I dont get why it resets though. With someone else
Even god only created once.

SPOILER DISCUSSION

OP, I haven't seen the film but saw Pi and RFAD so on when wiki DA says it's a dream logic psychological freak out, I can totally see the film without subjecting myself to it
It does indeed sound like a religious allegory. The publisher Wig character is called Herald.
Alternatively reviewers have talked about it being about an artistic process: so he's an artist, she's a muse, their baby is his "baby" which is pulled to pieces by an unforgiving audience. So he has to start again.
I used to like this kind of stuff twenty years ago but life is too short now Wink

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/09/2017 21:18

I left my husband in the cinema to watch it to the end. He has no idea either why it resets (but he failed to spot any of the things you did) Once you have the explanation it is really very heavy handed and obvious. Except the re-setting part which makes no sense.

Why did Javier Bardem have writer's block?

Does anyone else find is slightly creepy that Lawrence is dating Darren Aronofsky. She 27 and he 48 just like in the film where she married a controlling much older man.

I've seen Mark Kermode talk about it and he said to give it at least a week to digest - he did seem to rate it.

I think I'll give it a miss.
Still not recovered from Noah and it's rock monsters Hmm

Darren has a certain reputation when it comes to his leading ladies.
I like the review title God is a gaslighting husband. Albeit a spoiler in itself.
DA says whole thing falls apart if you over analyze and I suspect wanted people to see it cold. (I won't see it because it sounds too much, like Kill List or A Serbian film).
If it's about torturing a muse to make great art a and repeating this process with Rachel, Nat, Jennifer...is it autobiographical? Has DA got a God complex...or is it Twist actually a film about James Cameron?! Grin
