Watching the classic Kevin Costner Robin Hood on 5 Star channel and there are LOADS of new scenes and extended lines that I've never seen before! I know the original edit off by heart (saw at cinema when originally released!) What's going on!?! Can anyone shed light? Feels like an alternate universe!!

Could you elaborate on which scenes/lines are different? Perhaps you're watching a Director's Cut?

I haven't seen it, the alternative edit I mean. I loved the original when it fist came out. What's different ?

What? Does Kevin still swim naked in the pond? That's the most important thing!

When the knight kidnap Marion, the one that pins her on the table said 'I've never seen a noble womans breasts' (or similar!). There was a whole extra scene in the dungeon when sheriff asked the prisoners if they would prefer pain or death before ordering them all to be tortured anyway! ANOTHER whole extra scene which was totally freaky where the scary witch told Sheriff that he was in fact her son and that she murdered the true sheriff at birth and switched him!! Shock

And the scene where they are planning their rescue of the hanging prisoners was cut so Fanny never got to say her awesome line 'I've had eight babies don't talk to me about pain!'.

Ooooh scratch that, IMDB has come up trumps! Extended version, re-edited to include that which was cut in order for it to maintain a U.K. PG rating! Well there you go! ShockShock

Wow, fascinating Chanandler! I've had a similar experience.

After watching Amélie on DVD on average 3 times a year for 10+ years (my fave film, natch), I finally got the blu-ray last year. "Oh, how exciting!", I thought...

THE TRANSLATION IS DIFFERENT AND I AM COMPLETELY UNHAPPY.

Apparently Kevin Costner was so jealous that A Certain Actor Who Shall Remain Nameless But Whose Name Rhymes With Ballan Pickman effectively "stole" the film from him* that he had all the scenes that weren't totally necessary to the plot cut from the final edit.

*This actor used totally unethical methods, such as talent, charm, charisma etc

My friend went to see this film 18 times. I loved it too but not that much. I'd love to see if again but I can do without the extra bits.

We had this last year when we bought the DVD to have a crappy movie night in. Totally ruined the film imo, I was expecting a familiar comfort blanket of a film and it was ruined I tell thee. Also hate the extended cut of Empire Records which I think is the only one you can now buy, I couldn't wait for a friend to see it for the first time and it was just awful.

Alan Rickman - I’ll cut your heart out with a spoon 💜

What the? This won't do at all. What's the point of seeing a beloved film so many times that you can talk along with it if some bastard is going to switch it all up?

Can't believe they've cut Fanny's eight babies line!

Sloane so right about Empire Records. I used to have the original one on VHS and replaced it with the dvd version and it was awful. The extra bits added nothing good and actually ruined the film.

What's the problem here?! You're saying there's more Alan Rickman in this edit...

Crumbs, I had Empire Records taped from the TV and it was one of my favourites. I'd bigged it up to a friend and had a night in planned around getting the DVD and it was just a totally different film. The old cut was punchy and funny, the new one just dragged.
