So the trailer for the new IT movie just came out...looks fantastic...

But AIBU to think that no-one will be fantastic and iconic as Tim Curry was when he played Pennywise??

We all float down here.....

Just watched the trailer. Poor Georgie! Always the worst bit.

I think the new clown looks scarier than Tim Curry, but he played it so well it would be hard to compete.

I think it looks awesome. Can't wait and I'm not a fan of remakes usually Grin

giraffe Yes the new Clown IS scarier looking...in fact he's frankly terrifying which is great, finally a great horror movie to watch before Halloween even if it is just a remake.

But there was something about Tim Curry in that role...when I read the book now it's always him I picture.

gamer I'm stupidly excited, to the point that I've seen the trailer 3 times now and have forwarded it to my horror fan mates (obviously not to anyone terrified of clowns though!) with hints that we need to pre-book!

The bit at the end where Pennywise is crawling across the floor to Bill is freaking excellent. I really can't wait

Can't wait to see this!

My DD had an audio book of Tim Curry reading The Happy Prince and it always made me laugh thinking of him in full Pennywise costume reading the Happy Prince.

I wish they would hurry up with a Dark Tower trailer too

Soooo looking forward to IT

Haha! So glad I'm not the only one who is ridiculously excited for this movie!

My parents never let me watch the original TV movie (I was way too young) but obviously reading my sister's Stephen King novel every evening was ok by them HmmConfused
Although oddly I never developed a fear of clowns, I never had nightmares despite the book's graphic nature and my love for horror movies grew with every King book I read - DSis was, and still is, a King fanatic, so I had a lot of access!

So I didn't see Tim Curry as IT until I was about 12 and it was electrifying to me...loved the whole IT scene ever since!

Reading about poor Georgie and his boat...it still makes me shiver, added to this is Tim Curry's voice saying those infamous lines and ooooh I've gone all goosebumpy thinking about it!

My copy of IT is very dog-eared now so will download a Kindle version to read in a bit! May even watch the trailer a 4th time! Grin

Technically it's not a remake, it's a new adaptation Grin

I absolutely adore the book and whilst I've got a real soft spot for the 90s mini series there's no denying it's absolute trash. Yes, Tim Curry is fabulous as Pennywise (though he's not so much scary as just a monumental arsehole) but the rest of it is just cringeworthy.

I'm very excited about the new film. It's certainly going to be quite different from the book but different doesn't necessarily mean bad, just look at The Mist!!

Stephen King himself has seen it and said on FB "Andy Muschietti's remake of IT (actually it's Part 1--The Losers' Club) succeeds beyond my expectations. Relax. Wait. And enjoy.". If he's happy, I'm happy Grin

It's a bit sad to think that Tim Curry has been unwell. I was hoping for a
cameo.

Cornflake Agree with that, without Tim Curry it would have been a flop and instantly forgettable - hence my AIBU if anyone can top his performance, as he made that film...but after seeing the trailer I have high hopes! It's certainly going to be a damn sight scarier this time around, which is perfect Grin

I've had to impose a Facebook ban on myself today because so many of my "friends" have shared photos or videos of that fucking clown and I HATE fucking clowns. I love horror films but I've never been able to watch IT because fucking clowns. I genuinely can't stand them, they've freaked me out since I was a small child. Going to a circus is my idea of sheer hell, closely followed by watching that film. I read the book as a teenager though, I remember it being quite confusing - it kept cutting from 'reality' to the viewpoint of some kind of ancient, mystical Turtle that created the Universe and is the mortal enemy of IT or something.

Mctum Yes such a shame, a great actor all round. So many big films and TV series under his belt, and always played a cracking villain!

I can't wait for it.

I'm going to read the book and watch the original movie again before it comes out. Will have to make sure dd is firmly out of the way though as she's terrified of clowns, a glimpse of that would not help in the slightest.

Beast I feel for you with that, my DD is terrified of clowns so have warned her to mute certain parts of her social media because the trailer is flying round everywhere and if she sees it she will want to sleep in our bed even though she's 15

It definitely gave me nightmares when I was a kid, I used to be terrified of waking up and seeing a balloon tied to my bedside light. 🎈

Loved the book though. Stephen King is so underrated just because he writes horror.

Incidentally if you're excited about It and haven't watched Stranger Things on Netflix, then you should! A similar atmosphere and group of children (I think one of the actors is in It too)

I still have it on dvd Grin Just checked to make sure the dc hadn't scratched it to bits years ago but still good to go. She certainly doesn't take after me Stew, I was a huge Stephen King and horror reader from early teens. Ds on the other hand shares my love and is pleading with me to go see it. He's 9 not on his nelly

Stew I think it's a fairly common fear. We found out when my DM, took me to the circus one day when I was 3 or 4 along with a friend of hers and her DS. We were stood in the ticket queue and a clown came out to do balloons for the kids and I literally went rigid with terror as soon as I clapped eyes on it. I was a confident child and not at all prone to drama so she knew I was genuinely terrified. I didn't even cry or shout, I froze and went dead white, I couldn't speak, I think I was almost catatonic, she had to pick me up and take me home. I've never even liked looking at pictures of clowns, they freak me out on some kind of inexplicable, primal level. I also hate dolls, especially the ones with the painted faces

I wish I could watch the film though, it's the kind of thing I'd usually love!
