1001 Films To See Before You Die

I was just wondering whether anyone else has this book or has tried to watch the films in it?

I bought the book about 12 years ago as I've always been a film fanatic and I've watched about 380 of them so far I think (some I'd already seen as a child). I used to go regularly to the video store (back when that was still a thing!) to rent the old movies out. I'm still plugging away at it slowly. It's quite good because it's meant that I've watched a huge variety of films; different eras/countries/genres etc.

I try and aim to watch one of of the films each week but obviously this is not always possible!

Yes apocalypse now is in there as is the documentary about it.

But if the book is 12 years old there has been so many good films to watch that would be after that time.

Ooh, then I'm interested

How about blade runner?

And I could narrow the last 12 years into 10 films.

Yes basically it's updated every year though so I'm working off the 2016 book. Blade runner is on it too! I'm retired.explorer on instagram if you want to see what I've watched so far! I'm a huge movie fan so a lot of rewatches in store but so many older movies I've not seen and I've not been really disappointed other than a couple!

I wouldn't say it's definitive there are some major omissions imo but of course my opinion is as subjective as anyone else's!

I'm now sad enough to have read through the entire list and I've seen 244 - seems a lot considering that i would never consider myself to be a film buff. I have to say, a lot of them I know I have seen but I remember almost nothing about them, or what I do remember is feeling really fed up at having spent 90 minutes of my life watching them [cough] Tokyo Story [cough]

What's your favourite film that's not on the list Sandy? I think one of mine would be Topsy Turvy.

How do I follow you ?

And I'm going to throw Raise The Red Lantern I to the mix, great film and visually superb.

I think if you just search my username I should appear it's public! So far my favourites have been The Elephant Man, who's afraid of Virginia Woolf and Dr Strangelove (more satirical than ever!)
