Anyone else going to see it tonight?

DH and I have had our tickets booked for weeks grin We also decided to gamble on it being brilliant and booked ourselves in for a showing tomorrow evening as well blush

After being cynical right up until seeing Force Awakens and being pleasantly surprised I've allowed myself to have high hopes for this one. The cast is pretty solid and the trailers have all been impressive so fingers crossed I won't be disappointed!!

I loved it, it's not perfect but I bloody loved it!

I shall leave it at that for now, can't really say much more without risking getting spoilery.

Very excited to go back and see it again tomorrow 😁

Just got back from a Leicester Square midnight showing and the director and main cast appeared at the start to introduce the film! They were in a bar nearby apparently and just thought they'd drop in to say hi, as you do.

Very much enjoyed it, although unfortunately found the IMAX a little too overwhelming and had to close my eyes for periods of time, just so much bright flashes and movement. Going to watch it in 2D at the weekend to catch up the detail I missed.

That is amazing Phoenix! I went to a screening of Trainspotting at the ed fest this year in hope that someone might show up given they were all in the city filming the sequel but no such luck!

Tri were booked to see it in 2D, I can't do imax/3D, it gives me a headache. Hope it's as good second time round.

ootsideinbacktaefront Thu 15-Dec-16 09:41:22

How was trainspotting?? Can't wait smile

I loved it too! I was almost viewing it as 'the one to get out of the way before Chapter 8', but it was gripping and made me so emotional! I need to go back and see it again.

RumAppleGinger Fri 16-Dec-16 00:03:30

ootside it was just an anniversary screening of the original film. Looking forward to the sequel though.

Absolutely loved Rogue One. Don't want to share anything that might spoil it but the story is great and the cast are fantastic. It is a bit more complicated than The Force Awakens and I'm not entirely sure 6 year old DS will follow it but he is desperate to see it so might go again at the weekend.

Thought it was fab. Kids also loved it 9,13&16. Husband suffered with popcorn eating rage.

JustAnotherSimpleOldNumber Fri 16-Dec-16 13:13:59

Wihtout spoiling anything plot related Is Peter Cushing's character in it much or is it a quick cameo?

PhilODox Fri 16-Dec-16 13:18:58

May I ask what rating/how scary it is?
Ds (7) was okay with force awakens, but I wouldn't show him other 12A films (e.g. spectre, Jurassic world etc)
He's also having nightmares at present after seeing treasure island as a Christmas treat with school. sad
He is a die hard SW fan (original trilogy only).

TheSecondOfHerName Fri 16-Dec-16 16:27:22

We're going this evening as a family. All six of us are SW fans (to varying degrees) so quite excited.

YorkiesGlasses Fri 16-Dec-16 19:21:13

JustAnother not a quick cameo no, he's a proper character in the film!

YorkiesGlasses Fri 16-Dec-16 19:23:26

Phil If he was fine with TFA I think he'd be okay with this... I can't think of anything more graphic in this one. It is darker in tone though. If he loves original trilogy I'd take him. I'd also consider rewatching New Hope before you go!

VeryBitchyRestingFace Fri 16-Dec-16 19:26:59

I saw it yesterday. There was me and three other people at the screening. I had expected it to be mobbed.

Not sure I'd take a child under 10 to see it for ... reasons. confused

YorkiesGlasses Fri 16-Dec-16 19:44:48

Do you think it's worse than the original trilogy and TFA?

I have to say, there were about three empty rows at my cinema and all the merch was available, unlike TFA when it had all sold out by the second day. I think it may be more of a slow burner, with casual fans not immediately rushing out to see it.

PhilODox Fri 16-Dec-16 21:09:09

Thanks yorkies - he knows New Hope practially shot for shot!

It's the 'darkness' I'm worried about- he's a real thinker, and dwells on things.
He found the rathtars scary in Force Awakens, and was nervous before their appearance the second time he saw it.

I think DH and I will try to see it first, like we did with Force Awakens.

PhilODox Fri 16-Dec-16 21:09:56

The thing is, even though Empire is scary, he's only ever seen at home, on DVD, where we can stop at any point, and discuss things, etc.

VeryBitchyRestingFace Fri 16-Dec-16 21:51:54

Would your son be upset by Bambi's mother's mishap, PhilODox?

TheSecondOfHerName Fri 16-Dec-16 22:08:10

I really enjoyed it. I liked K2SO, who reminded me of a cross between Marvin the android (from Hitchhikers' Guide) and DS2 (who has Asperger's).

AlmaMartyr Fri 16-Dec-16 22:21:10

I loved it, can't wait to see it again. Loads of great bits but quite a fan of Captain Cassian Andor too wink DD (8) enjoyed it although it did feel darker in tone to A Force Awakens and there were bits that upset her a bit.

Davros Fri 16-Dec-16 22:56:05

I thought it was dull. I'm not a SW fan but I don't mind it and I generally like Sci-fi and films with fx. Pedestrian story, not enough aliens, no humour

PhilODox Fri 16-Dec-16 23:55:56

very that's a difficult one. I think yes.
Have looked at Common Sense Media, and I think we're not going to take him.
