Have you ever walked out of the theatre or cinema? Why?

I was at the theatre last night. The play was 16+ and clearly stated it contained swearing and sexual references in its advertising and BOY did it. The people next to us walked out after the umpteenth wank joke and I was like Shock I've never seen that happen before. And surely if something states upfront what it's about you don't hoik your bosoms and get professionally offended and make for the exit?

I walked out of a performance of Hairspray that had an entirely white cast.
I would probably walk out of a show that had umpteen wank jokes as that sounds pretty boring.

I walk out of anything I'm not enjoying. Life's too short.

I walked out of Mama Mia and one of the Sex in the City films. Life is too short for crap.

How do you even stage Hairspray without any black cast? Shock

Yeah they did over egg the pudding on the wank references but the rest of it was good.

Walked out of a couple of films and demanded my money back because of the behaviour of others watching - chatting, talking on phones, explaining the ending half way through , etc.

Stopped going eventually. I just cannot stand the obnoxiously noisy, selfish behaviour of some people.

Oh, we did get refunded too Smile

I walked out of a play called "the republic of happiness" at the Royal Court in London, it was terrible, completely incomprehensible. The stewards said they hadn't had a performance without people leaving!

I nearly did once. The play did have a lot of swearing and vulgarity but that wouldn't have been why I walked out: it just wasn't funny. I would never leave in the middle of a performance though - would wait until the interval.

I went to see The War Of The Worlds a few months ago, and it was shit. We nearly left at the interval, but I sort of thought we should get our money's worth, as the tickets weren't cheap. (I know that makes no sense.)

I used to have a boyfriend who worked in a theatre, and I could get tickets for free, if there were spare seats. I did walk out of one or two of those, if they were a bit boring (at the interval, though, not just leaving while the okay was going on).

Loads of people walked out of a stage adaptation of Trainspotting I went to. This was before the film. The actors were brilliant it was a shame really.

I walked out of Around The World In 80 Days with Steve Coogan and Jackie Chan. It was wank. Snuck into Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban instead.

I walked out of Sandi Toksvig's Christmas panto a few years ago. There were about 10 of us there, and we had such high hopes but it was shite. We met up at the interval and decided that instead of buying expensive NT priced drinks, we'd just sack it off and go to dinner instead!

Sorry, nearly walked out.

I went to see The War Of The Worlds a few months ago, and it was shit.

It was brilliant when they had some of the original cast members. The ones they used as replacements were weak with no proper voices to carry the show.

I didn't even go, I walked out at the ticket stage when Jeff decided not to use Justin and Chris.

When I saw Book of Mormon the folk sitting beside us didn't come back after the interval. Not sure how you can go to see it without knowing that you are likely to be offended?!

Went to see the film version of Titus Andronicus when it came out. I was by myself and it was a one screen cinema in a theatre. At the start, there were about 50 people in to see it. When the lights came on at the end, there were less than a dozen left! I think people thought it was Shakespeare, so weren't prepared for the brutal content.

Same cinema and quite a few walked out of Quills too - the film about the Marquis De Sade.

I walked out of Pinter's The Caretaker on the West End years ago. I'm obviously not intellectual enough because it was dull, dull, dull.

I don't think I could walk out of something I'd paid for, I'd always wonder if the best was yet to come, plus it's only 2 hours max out of your life!

I think the only time I'd walk out would be if there were people there spoiling the enjoyment and that would be to complain and hopefully get them to be quiet or thrown out.

Only once - watching Voker Schlondorff's The Tin Drum and I just got up and left. It was making me feel queasy. Lots of ugly and violent imagery. Had to wait for the film to finish though, my boyfriend wanted to see it through.
