It's amazing isn't it. I did it during film studies in 1998 and it's been my favourite film ever since. The music just wow but it's heartbreaking but also very funny in places. It made me want to seeSicily too

The scene at the end when Toto is an adult and watching all the kissing scenes Alfredo had to cut out on the orders of the priest.

I saw it in the 80's. I dislike the director's cut though.

Romauld et Juliette is the only film I have been to where the audience applauded at the end.

Now, what was the director's cut? Because the description of the film on IMDB (have been nerding) mentions a whole section where Toto finds Elena's daughter and hears that Alfredo told her to leave Toto alone.

I love Cinema Paradiso so much. I've seen it several times- the last time was 9 years ago before our honeymoon travelling round Sicily. That time I started crying in the first scene where he receives the phone call re Alfredo. I cried pretty solidly after that. Gorgeous music too. One of my all time favourite films.
