So when we were teenagers and watched this, we all preferred non-threatening cutie Duckie over drippy creep Blaine.. yes? But now we're in the full flower of mature womanhood... I think we're all agreed that we'd rip James Spader's white chinos off with our teeth, no questiongrin

Andrew Mccarthy has a special place in my heart I've loved him forever. I cannot stand Duckie especially in the cringe fest that is 2 and a half men!! James Spader is ok.

SoleSource Sun 01-Mar-15 13:36:27

Never watched as it looked shyte to me, Dirty Dancing shyte.

Brandysnapper Sun 01-Mar-15 13:37:27

Nope, it's always been Andrew for me.

Faez Sun 01-Mar-15 13:37:44

Yep that's why they had to refilm the ending.

emkana Sun 01-Mar-15 13:38:21

Why did they refilm the ending?

Faez Sun 01-Mar-15 13:38:44

Oh but I mean I've always preferred Andrew. My first post doesn't really make sense :/

Faez Sun 01-Mar-15 13:39:29

She ended up with Duckie and people complained so they filmed another ending. Andrew had already shaved his head for another role so had to wear a wig.

rambunctious Sun 01-Mar-15 13:41:39

Watching it as an adult makes me realise what a wet fish Blane (Andrew McCarthy) is. Andie & Duckie are far better suited to each other. but god, James Spader is SO HOT in the film

Faez Sun 01-Mar-15 13:43:01

Hot in a disturbing kind of way...

DigApony Sun 01-Mar-15 13:43:23

Wish they had kept the original ending I loved duckie

Trinpy Sun 01-Mar-15 13:45:52

The dress she wears is just awful. You think it's going to be something really amazing because they have the long montage of her designing it etc then she turns up in an ugly pink sack sad.

RoseTheHat Sun 01-Mar-15 13:48:23

No way Faez! Now I need to watch afain and look out for the wig!! I always thoyght she should have ended up with Duckie - Blaine seemed such a drip; he's so cringe in the record shop when he doesn't know any cool bands shock I guess he's the rich guy from the right side of the tracks... so that's the appeal for Andi

Pagwatch Sun 01-Mar-15 13:51:47

Andrew McCarthy was better in St Elmos Fire. I could never get past the weird watery bulgy eyed thing he did to convey strong emotion.

Btw. Rob Lowe in St Elmos Fire.

rambunctious Sun 01-Mar-15 13:54:35

Yes yes trinpy, what a let down the dress was!

RoseTheHat Sun 01-Mar-15 13:56:12

YES Pagwatch, he looks like a squeezed hamster.

YY Rob Lowe so hot.

My real fav though, at the time, was John Cusak (sp?) in Say Anything....he was soooo sweet to her.. swoooon

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Sun 01-Mar-15 14:00:32

Never liked Duckie, quite liked Andrew McCarthy - always absolutely LOVED James Spader.

<also had a soft spot for Andie's Dad with his 80-a-day gruff voice... I have no idea why? shock>

thoth Sun 01-Mar-15 14:08:34

er- no! it's always been about Andrew McCarthy for me!
Spader is horrible, particularly in PiP.

PerpendicularVincenzo Sun 01-Mar-15 14:09:42

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

squoosh Sun 01-Mar-15 14:13:30

James Spader played Evil Prepster with aplomb.

He doesn't look like that any more.................

squoosh Sun 01-Mar-15 14:14:48

Harry Dean Stanton breaks my heart a little.

Lardylassnomore Sun 01-Mar-15 14:15:43

You need to watch some kind of wonderful. It's like a reverse pretty in pink!

Lucie99 Sun 01-Mar-15 14:16:15

Pagwatch Sun 01-Mar-15 14:17:32
