Fifty Shades of Grey - will you succumb?

Come on, admit it, we know you've read the book, and we reckon loads of you have got it on your Kindle just so you can read it in secret.
It might have got a bit weird with Jamie Dornan being a serial killer in The Fall, but we're sure he's put all that stuff behind him now and thrown himself into his new role as the enigmatic Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey.
He's made a lovely job of it in the . So it would be rude to not pop along and take a look, you know, just so we all can educate ourselves and give a considered opinion.
It seems Jamie did his research into BDSM and had this to say:
?It?s a far bigger scene than I imagined: in pretty much any city in the world that you could name, people want to get spanked with a paddle with studs on it?
Are you prepared to ADMIT you'll be going?

Fifty Shades of Grey - will you succumb?

Probably.... my friend is insisting a group of us go... a waste of £10.40 in my opinion, but gets me out the house for a night!

I haven't read any books since I stopped breastfeeding DD 6.5 years ago, I don't have time! If I did, I'm afraid hardcore porn wouldn't be my thing. More into Tolkien and Terry Pratchett. I won't be going to see the movie or buying the DVD. Smile

Hated the book, it was terrible but I'm afraid I can't resist the prospect of Mr Dornan...if it is too awful I might stick earplugs in and just enjoy the view, particularly in the absence of that Irish accent Smile

No. As someone who knows a little about BDSM, the book didn't portray BDSM to me- just plain domestic abuse.

A true BDSM relationship while being Dominant/ Submissive is also about trust, compromise, and listening to your partners needs. I see little of that in this relationship.

The whole thing just screams stereotype to me. Introverted/ low self esteem girl who has little personality, the impression that if you're into anything kinky you're somehow "broken".

I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you all with my views on this. And don't get me started on the pathetic writing, I hope the film has better dialogue. Hmm

The one thing it did do is at least get woman talking about their sexual desires, which I suppose is a good thing.

Er, no.

If it aligns to the book then it gives out some dreadful, terrible messages.

The key tenants of a BDSM are COMMUNICATION and CONSENT. 50 shades of shite completely ignores these tenants and actually portrays an abusive relationship dressed up as "kink"

It's revolting - not because of the sex, but because it puts women in danger of accepting sexual and physical abuse as the norm when a BDSM is actually the exact opposite of that.

Hmm face at this whole post.

BDSM RELATIONSHIP.

Sorry I was hammering away angrily and lost a word.

Anyway, buckle up - it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Sorry I'm not into the whole young women who act like little girls and and are preyed on by abusive fucks thing.
I don't find it fun and naughty.
I thought MN was generally against domestic abuse.

Im planning to have a party with my sex positive feminist kinky female friends where we eat cake, drink wine and massively mock it. Without funding it.

Then we will continue our lifestyles and hobbies in consensual and fulfilling ways, as Dommes, subs, switches, sadists, masochists, vanillas, swingers and all the other wonderful and varied identities that we have by ourselves and in our relationships with men, women, both, other and none.

And probably carry on being told we are wrong, disgusting and amusing by the rest of society, for what makes us happy in private (or with consenting audiences)

No. abuse isn't suddenly ok when the perpetrator is a hunky millionaire

I am baffled as to why MNHQ would be advertising this. Sure, post something under a different 'non-official' name if you want, but does HQ frequently promote films?

And given that the abuse/DV/misogyny/ utterly shite writing of the books have been well and truly ventilated online, is this, of all films, one behind which MNHQ really wants to be throwing its weight?

Seems a little odd to me.

We've got a bit of an interest in bdsm and, while it has it faults, will probably go and see it for er ideas and to see that kind of thing in a film..... Any better films people could recommend we'd er happily review for research purposes ;)
