Paddington movie

I've only seen the promotional poster at bus stops and very short trailers on tv but I don't think much of their Paddington
I would have thought he was a paler colour.
Anyone else agree?

I'm 50 so Paddington was a huge part of my youth and I've just been to see film with dd (aged 16!) and we both loved it! I agree that initially the pictures I'd seen didn't look like Paddinton to me but in the film he was lovely. All the bits from the books were there (Mr Gruber and also Paddington's 'hard stare'!). There was an audible sigh in the cinema from the mums when he got his duffle coat!! I'd say it was good for about aged 6 or 7 upwards, there were some smaller ones there who were a bit bored I think. It was great for adults as well as children, funny and also touching at times.

We also saw it tonight - me, dh and 3 dc aged 13, 11 and 7 all enjoyed it. Great film.

I saw this yesterday and thought it was great.

A few really funny moments, plenty of action and a loveable bear. Nice one.

Went with DCs 6 & 4 yesterday. 4yo was a bit puzzled but liked the set pieces. 6yo liked it more.

I'm surprised at just how good the reviews are the trailer looked a bit cack!!

We went yesterday - I thought it was OK, potential to be brilliant but not sure I liked the 'loss of innocence' of the Paddington story.

Did we really need NK shooting everything in sight with a dart gun Hollywood style? Cue lots of crying children in the theatre.

Obviously a happy ending, 7/10 here, I know its a PG but I don't think that they needed to make Paddington into a film that warrants a PG.

i thought the nicole kidman character was a bit far fetched but then again it is a kids film. thought it was really quite sweet. enjoyed it and i'm an old cynic.

Saw it with dcs 6 and 8 and we all loved it. He was exactly as I remembered / imagined from my childhood.

I really loved it - want to see it again! I agree they could have done without the Nicole Kidman character and storyline, but Paddington, the Browns, and their lovely house were fab! .

Best film of 2014! Watched today with DH and DSs (11&13), we all loved it. No negative stereotyping, no cheesy Disney-moments, loads of clean jokes, loads of London-appreciation, loads of immigrants/settlers/new people portrayed beautifully (Jamaican-style steel band, Mr Gruber, pigeons, Judy at her new school, etc). Nothing to criticise really.

And Paddington in the original books doesn't wear wellies either I know because I am looking through a book with the 1959 illustrations I don't when or why the wellies appeared? know

I think it is one of the best children's films in years. It is such an antidote to Disney/Pixar mush. Brilliant!

Saw it today with DS (8) and DD (5). DS roared with laughter throughout, DD (and I!) a bit scared at times - but it's only her 2nd cinema film, and it certainly didn't spoil her enjoyment of the film. A feel good film, tho agree it needed to be PG - it wasn't all 'soft and fluffy'. My favourite bit was Mr Curry's suggested supper menu to Millicent.

I got my old anthology of PAddington stories out to show DS1 (7) and the Paddington in the film looks far more like the line drawings from the original books than the version we've all come to accept as "standard".

Looks like I'll only be taking DS1 to see the film though, think DS2 might get a) bored and b) possibly scared, so he can stay at home with DH (who also doesn't want to see it)

DH and I went by ourselves and we adored it. Dc are 17 and 19 and had other things to do ). It's a delightful film which does manage to capture the essence of Paddington. It is also show London at it's best.

Saw this with the DC last weekend and really loved it. Even fidgety 7 year old DS sat transfixed for the entire movie.

It was a full house and I can't remember the last time I heard a whole audience laugh out loud so many times and the give a spontaneous round of applause at the end!

The trailer does it no justice, none at all. I didn't want to take DS to see it because the CGI looked cack, it looked as though all the jokes were crude and well, generally, it looked a bit shit.

Then I heard from several film critic buddies that it was an absolute gem and to take any child to see it. So we saw it today. And it's wonderful. Some properly laugh-out-loud moments, a few poignant bits (the little train scene with Mr Gruber made me well up), great cast, Paddington is perfect (with a great voice) and I want to move into the Brown's house. DS (4) loved the 'shooting bit' the best of all!

Ah I love Paddington, even went on the Paddington trail in London that coincided with the film! Agree with previous posters that NK character was unnecessary and scary at the best of times, especially the shooting, far too Hollywood. Oh and he's not the Paddington I remember, I felt happier when he put the duffle coat on

Loved the London scenes and the Brown's house.

It's a great old fashioned funny family film with a really timely message about tolerance. We all loved it.

We all loved it too. Thought it was funny, quirky and unexpectedly moving. London looked gorgeous and I also want to move in to that house
The red wellies were put on the toy Paddingtons (first made by Jeremy Clarkson's mother, as I'm sure everyone knows) to enable them to stand up. I still have mine, he lives in my mum's house.

Saw it twice to be fair my youngest is hoping for a third time a la Frozen but I will buy it on dvd. It was lovely and I am glad you liked it OP. I thought he was a lighter brown originally and was more bear-like in this one but he grew on me. And I thought Hugh Superinjunction Bonneville was very good in it.
Loved:
When he put his coat on. Choked up at that bit.
When he saw the explorer footage and was homesick. Lump in throat at that bit too.
The sat nav joke which doesn't work in translation so was alone in laughing at the second time around ( saw the original first then a second time in second lang). Probably why it resonates, as an expat I still feel like an immigrant.

The trailer nearly put me off altogether, but my DSis persuaded me to go with her. And we loved it.
