Any suggestions?
(I hate Pixar!)

Ooh I love Annie!

Mind, I also love Pixar and Dreamworks.

What about March of the Penguins (real life docu-movie)? Sound of Music? Mary Poppins?

Bugsy Malone might be worth a look.

Summer Holiday!
may sound odd but my son loves it to bits he knows all the songs and most of the script off by heart there's no scary parts and its very bright and summery with some slapstick and silliness that keeps the little ones entertained right the way through

'Carpet from the 80s' !!
Love it!

DC love the phineas and ferb cartoons if you can see them, and dh and I love like them too grin

They usually have a nice song in and are good in so far as there's no shoot em ups or violence or double level jokes that you get in most things. The two main characters are uber geniuses but still nice sweet boys who make something mad each episode so on another front it is good to see geeks as positive role models grin

I know it's disney but it's not like most disney stuff! I didn't like it immediately (mostly because I was in and out and kind of assuming that it was going to be another horrible thing like ben 10 or pokemon etc) but it soon grew on me.

(This is one of our favourite songs from P&F to give you an idea!)

Sorry, I hate musicals!! Disney did loads though grin The Aristocats was pretty popular in our house.

Really I don't know any musicals apart from those listed above so any suggestions very welcome!!
They're probably not old enough yet for Grease & Dirty Dancing ;-)

SingleMama Fri 12-Apr-13 11:48:03

Those are very similar to Disney pix.
Just remembered I also love the Lotte Reiniger & Michel Ocelot films <3
Just need a couple of musicals now I think & my lovefilm list will be full for the next 2 months! (Friend got me present of 2 months free. A good way to see what my fussy kids like before we buy!)

Yes, the boys have had Thunderbirds - both the old episodes and the newer movies. We had a lot of that stuff on video whcih is long gone and also a lot of the earlier dvds they had we have given away too.

What about A Bugs Life or Boo, Zino and the Snurks - don't think those are Disney/Pixar

SingleMama Fri 12-Apr-13 10:24:50

Absolutely love Wolves Witches & Giants!!!!!
Only available on video but I really need to get this. So funny!

Anybody know any good musicals?
We found The Sound Of Music a bit slow but we LOVE Singin in the rain!
Mary Poppins, Chitty chitty no good. Too dated for us!

SingleMama Fri 12-Apr-13 09:50:16

Will check out Batteries not included. Anybody think Transformers is good? Someone also suggested Thunderbirds...

SingleMama Fri 12-Apr-13 09:48:10

Yeah Soontobeslendergirl a LOT of retro in our house too!
Snoopy is just amazing & my kids love oldschool Sesame Street & The Muppet Show.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is so cool! Sadly, since Disney took the reins, we hate all the Muppet films! My son even cried when I took him to see one of the latest Muppet films in the cinema. We had to walk out. Like Mother, like son!

That's funny theYamiofYawn those are the exact 3 films (the only ones!) my kids like: Totoro, Kiki & Kirikou!

SingleMama Fri 12-Apr-13 09:30:24

Curious George the film? Like the series w the monkey? Must check that out.

I hated Macauley Culkin when I was little so home alone a no-goer. Ok maybe at Christmas.

(Cause it's films for the 3 of us Im looking for ideally)

Curious George! It's a lovely film, none of the horrible "everything goes wrong, everyone turns on the protagonist, cue sad music" theme that runs through 99% of films. It's funny without the double level of humour that hides adult jokes from the kids. Very sweet and entertaining.

soontobeslendergirl Thu 11-Apr-13 21:14:37

we do a lot of Retro in our house, I don't like them having movies above their age and there are not a lot out for 11/12 year olds

soontobeslendergirl Thu 11-Apr-13 21:12:21

Muppets movies?

soontobeslendergirl Thu 11-Apr-13 21:11:19

Johnny 5 movie is Short Circuit.

soontobeslendergirl Thu 11-Apr-13 21:10:11

I take it you have done the Home Alone movies then? What about Batteries not Included - story is a wee bit slow and over their heads, but he'd love the wee spaceships. Also whatever those ones are with Johnny 5 the Robot?? The Goonies?, Honey I shrunk the kids? Cheaper by the Dozen? RV?

TheYamiOfYawn Thu 11-Apr-13 20:04:43

Motors was my phone's predictive text version of Totoro, sorry. My 6 year old days she also likes ScoobyDoo and Arietty.

SingleMama Thu 11-Apr-13 19:38:47

Yeah soontobeslendergirl my son loves anything slapstick. He actually liked the old Charlie Chaplin.

SingleMama Thu 11-Apr-13 19:37:15

Thanks for all those. Keep em coming! ;-)

Wow TheYamiOfYawn your kids have exactly the same taste/are equally as film fussy as mine! ;-) Must check out Motors.
