Skyfall - if you haven't seen it perhaps best not look?

Not seen a movie thread about this. So here goes?

Saw it last night, and was pretty disappointed. Never felt shaken or stirred. The pacing was deadfully uneven. And Dench was on screen waaay to much. ( Thank the lord she's out of it).

I could see the tension between old/new Bond with nice touches, but having the Aston /Martin only out for one trip seemed a bit mean. Quite liked the digger on back of a train scenario, and Ms Moneypenny was v cutely introduced. And Albert Finney was hardly recognisable!

It's going to be really hard to get back up to the standard of Casino Royale, imo.

anyone else?

We saw it yesterday and quite enjoyed it.

I agree with the pace issues and both of us were a bit at the sudden nightfall during the last section.

Some of the product placement riled me but oddly not the beer one which I found out later is the one people were narky about.

I thought the tube crash was wasted and unnecessary.

Thought the chinese (puppet type) fight sequence was brilliantly put together and I really enjoyed spotting the nods to previous films throughout.

Glad to have seen it but it probably could have lost about 15 minutes fairly easily.

yes it was long wasn't it? The product placement by-passed me tbh! I guess after all of the hype I was expecting more. Still a reasonable filum. The tube crash has been done before in DieHard ( I think) and a couple of other disaster films from the US.

Me, DDs x 2 and DH loved it! Best Bond film in a long time. What product placement????

DH and I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. I thought it was way better than Casino Royale and the product placements were not as blatant and annoying as it was in CR.

It will be interesting to see Ralph Fiennes in future Bond films as the new M, ditto Naomie Harris filling Samantha Bond's shoes. ROFL at Q being a young nerdy comp sci.

Loved it and didn't notice any product placement so it can't have stuck out!

I thought it was really, really good. Completely different fropm Casino Royale, but tbh I think it was the perfect Bond film for 2012. It didn't take itself too seriously.

I really liked Naomie Harris, thought it was very clever to have her introduced as Miss Moneypenny.

Ralph Fiennes was great.

I liked it - it reminded me a lot of the Dark Knight in some ways.

it was great to watch it in a packed cinema, and people seemed to enjoy it (the best bit was everyone cheering when the Aston Martin came on). I think all it needed was Sean Connery in a heavily disguised cameo (he would have been great in the Albert Finney part).

i think it must be the most successful Bond film in ages - I have never known Bond films to have so many packed out showings in the cinemas, and for teenage girls to attend in droves. DD has seen it 3 times with different groups of mates!

Bond should NOT have cried though.

Did he cry? We weren't sure whether it was water dripping from his late night swim.

I thought Skyfall was excellent. I wasn't sure whether to go or not because I didn't much enjoy Casino Royale. Very glad I went.

That's all very well.... BUT did he appear in his trunks at any point? Grin

Not usually a bond fan but I really liked this one. So beautifully filmed, smart & funny & contemporary.

We all loved it. Even dd (11) who's never seen a whole Bond film before.

I enjoyed it - especially Javier Bardem - he was very scary.
However I felt it lacked the glamour of Casino Royale - I missed that.
Just why does one of the Bond Girls always have to die in a horrific way after he's bedded them?

Product placement - Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, Sony, Barbour, Omega, Heineken...

I still loved it Grin I loved all the country stuff, DH has already got the watch and is now after the Barbour jacket...he can fekk off though, its £420 Shock

I felt a bit sorry for the gf in the scene where he was sulking in the shack Sad

We took our dc's to see it and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I though Sam Mendes did a great job and Bardem was a brilliant baddie. Soooo excited that Ralph Fiennes now 'M'. I liked Casino Royale, thought the next one (title escapes me) was pants.

Cinema packed when we got there so had to sit virtually at the front, which was actually rather good.

Does Daniel Craig win 'actor with the bluest eyes contest'?

I loved it. Did you see how furious James looked when they blew up his car Grin?

The bit at the enquiry was the best for me when the baddies arrived to get M and everyone leapt into action, Mallory included. Loved that. Q is perfect too. I noticed the product placement but it didn't detract anything from the movie for me. Loved seeing where James came from and his unswerving loyalty to M. It was just brilliant.

just saw it and thought it was good. Loved CR but this flowed better and Craig was better here as Bond. hadn't read any reviews or spoilers so had no clue as to how it would unfold. and yes, he shouldn't have cried.

I liked it but there was one bit that raised my heckles,

he identifies the fact that the bond girl has been sexually exploited most of her life, then he shags her whilst fully aware she is likely to be killed for helping him

Report
BegoniaBampot · 06/11/2012 23:25

yes, the shower scene did make me go Mmmm a little, as you said, she has been sexually exploited and abused only to have Bond turn up in the shower assuming she was up for it, so possibly sexually exploiting her too. Wonder what he would have done if she had said, 'err, no thanks love!'. it was like a throwback to Connery style bond just grabbing the girl and having his way without much say from her.

SlipperyNipple · 07/11/2012 15:45

I really loved the film but wish it hadn't had the shower scene. Or at least it would have been nice to have seen her start relations as it were.

Also he had just shagged MonneyPenny...seemed a little soon. Couldn't he grow up a bit in his relations with women?

Maybe sometimes he could just not be in the mood and go to bed with coco.....perhaps not!

The next film could have him being referred to a sex addiction therapist.

There's a whole thread about Bond sexism on MN relating to an article Giles Coren wrote!

I had no problem with 'the shower scene' tbf. And I felt she was, in fact, up for it! Remember, this is 007 not a counselling session.

The scene that made me- um- shudder? React? -was Raoul unbuttoning Bond's shirt and running his finger over Bond's scar. A great scene tinged with dry humour ('What makes you think it's my first time?').

In all, I confess that if I were Bond-geek I might not like it as much as I did. It's a different style of Bond altogether, I think far better suited to 2012 than say Brosnan's Bond would have been, all suave beefcake, a complete caricature. Craig's 'vulnerable' Bond made for a way more interesting experience for me (knocking 50 as I am!) along with the enjoyment of the 4 young teenage boys I took along- we all emerged a bit shell shocked!

I think Craig has found his 'Bond-stride' in this movie, and it'll be a hard act to follow.

Finally, even the Bond-baddie had a point: M did bloody well betray him, big time! He really did have 'a cause', albeit one he was pursuing in a rather unhinged way!

Slippery - that's why it was surprising. The last 2 movies showed Bond as a much more restrained modern man when it came to sex. In QOS he didn't even boff the main Bond Girl. CR as well, he didn't shag the sexy seductress but fell in love with Vesper. Yip, I know way too much about Bond.
