Article in the Metro about a tomboy

Hi everyone,

Did anyone see the front cover of the Metro (London) today? The article was about a 10 year old boy who went back to school as a girl because he wanted a sex change? The article really affected me due to the fact that the un-named child was bullied by other pupils in the school. I cannot believe such prejudice exists amongst young children these days?

I tried to Google more on the article and stumbled across a site for a film called TOMBOY, which is released in the UK this Friday. Having worked on French interior design lately (as some of you saw in my panic thread!), I was extremely pleased to see a delightful French film about the matter. I talked to my client about it and she said she saw it in Paris when it came out in April. The film has received 4 and 5 stars across the media from the sites I have seen so far, and I for one, cannot wait to see this film on Friday!

Has anyone else heard of it?

WOW! I went to a preview screening last night of this film at the Curzon Cinema in Soho, and I must say, it's absolutely phenomenal. I can't recommend this film highly to fellow Mum's. A beautiful portrayal of family life and a great central performance by the young french actress who plays Laure.

It got me thinking about the current media obsession with tomboys. Is it so bad that girls want to be boys and boys want to be girls? Why is this so frowned upon?
