I think I went a bit insane after reading this book. I finished it about three months ago, then just returned to the American Gynecology chapter recently because THAT was not a chapter I could face without a month or two of psyching myself up.
I felt purged when I'd finished, but it's a book that has to be read. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it was to write, because it's so difficult to read. sad
I bloody LOVED the closing pages though. She was a genius through and through.

As Daly points out, the further women go on their journey and the more radical they get, the more their speech and writing becomes incoherent to people still under the patriarchal spell. I noticed Robin Morgan echo this at the end of her poem, "Monster"

"And I will speak less and less and less to you
and more and more in crazy gibberish you cannot understand:
witches’ incantations, poetry, old women’s mutterings,
schizophrenic code, accents, keening, firebombs,
poison, knives, bullets, and whatever else will invent
this freedom."

The other week, I began what I thought was a relatively innocuous thread (not thinking anyone but the feminists on here would read it) about whether smear tests were necessary or not. It blew up like a firework and in less than an hour there were fifty replies from other mothers accusing me of being mad and needing counselling!

I realized then how far into "the realm" I'D come since I started MNing. YOu can'T just type your thoughts anymore because they WILL come across as "crazy" to people who are invested in not seeing

I find it pretty painful to deal with the fact that a lot of women are so mired in misogyny that they literally despise another woman for having a point of view.

It's not as painful as hearing all the atrocities that men commit every single day around the world, though!

I'd love to but am only half way through and it's all so new to me I'm not sure I will contribute much - will be reading more!
