I have had a bad illness phobia since my first DH died 9 years ago, all come to a head this week with the news of the flu stuff so GP has prescribed sertraline but too scared to take them as cannot cope with the thought of feeling ill on them in this stupid catch 22 situation.

when I was on setraline for the first few days I felt sick but never vomited - and the symptoms were gone completely by day 6.

Just not sure I can cope with even feeling sick right now, I know it sounds crazy as the long term benefits would be great!

I had Seroxat years ago (for depression after DH died) and had no side effects, the problem now is that I am breastfeeding so sertraline is the drug of choice.

Just a thought, but if your GP were to prescribe an antiemetic for the first couple of weeks would it help with any feelings of nausea? could you ask?

I took sertraline and occasionaly felt nauseous but never vommitted. I found that eating toast before taking them helped to stop the nausea too.

I'm taking Sertraline, now on top dose, and have had slight nausea only occaisionally.

Is it worth giving them a try? Some people take them at night as this helps with any side effects by sleeping through them.

Hope things work out for you

Just seen this and bumping as I am in similar situation - bf, emetophobia and thinking about going on sertraline - any advice as to how nauseous one might feel?

I took sertraline many years ago - don't recall every feeling nauseous on them. I've tried out 3 or 4 types of SSRI ads over the years - have had side effects on starting ranging from dodgy guts/dry mouth/feeling doped up/feeling agitated - but never nausea. So even if it's on the leaflet it's not an inevitable side effect.

its the main side effect TotalChaos - I think 25% of people on it are supposed to suffer from nausea. In a double-bind as it's partly the fear of nausea and vomiting that has brought me to this level of anxiety.
