Keep bursting in to tears, need a break, relatives and friends not available

I am not sure where to post this but here goes.

DS is 6 months old and wonderful.

I however am struggling, he doesn't sleep much at night, and then only in short bursts and is being very intensive during the day.

I have started bursting into tears in random places (i,e waitrose, adn then crying all the way home) and really, really need a break.

We have builders in, doing a kitchen extension, I am starting a small business with two friends that starts in two weeks, no sleep, etc, etc. DH is wonderful, but keeps having to work weekends etc.

Relatives either not suitable or not available, friends the same.

Can anyone recommend somewhere I can go, with DS, where they look after him while I relax?

DH is also desperate for a good nights sleep, and us being away would let him do that.

Please, please, please, please, please I need some help short term.

Longer term we will look into something for DS one afternoon a week to give me a break, but need something now!

LadyOfRoffle, thats the kind of thing we are thinking of, either that or some mythical spa somewhere, where they pamper me and look after him!

How do I find one that i know is good (plus they can't really stay here, as house a total mess wtih builders, and I need sleep and awake time on my own)

I just can't seem to stop crying most of the time, I don't think its PND, more just that I am overwhelmed by it all and need a bit of time off!

Isnt there a thing on MN with good hotel recommendations that have childcare etc.

I do feel for you.
Sleep deprivation is horrid especially if you don't get any time to catch up.

Do you know any MNers enough to trust them? I do not know any night nannies, just know they exist.. maybe google?

FourArms · 20/10/2008 19:46

Perhaps you need a childminder then. I'll put a link to this thread on the childcare board.

Why can't you be on duty alternate nights?

He minds baby, you sleep, then vice versa.

I'm pretty sure that one of the MN discount hotel chain thingies have childcare services. I'm pretty sure I read that. Will just check...

NBheebiegeebies, do you know what it is?

LadyofRoffle, I know marslady and Jura well, and a few came to my hennight, but thats about it. The thing is its not just the nights (though thats not helping), I need some time off in the day and DH HAS to do overtime at the moment (work related, no choice)

Fourarms, I think I do, but need one at really shortnotice,

Moondog, DH has to work, he is really good on weekends, and lets me catch up on sleep, but has to function at work during the week!

Lulumama, I have a history of depression and am so scared of getting PND. Really thought I was past the danger point.

I am desperatly hoping its not that now, but need some sleep and also some time away in the day.

And then I feel like I am letting DS down, like I don't love him enough or something, and I really do!

oh honey.. bursting into tears randomly is perhaps an indicator of PND. but so hard to tell when you are sooooooooo very tired.

do you take any meds? are you sleeping when you do go to bed, even if you are having broken sleep?

why not get some daytime help right now? just to take some pressure off

Haven't read whole thread, just saw the thread fourarms put in the Childminders section.....I'm a childminder who does overnight care but I'm in Reading and not SE London. Just thought it might be worth trying The Childcarelink Website here Usually the childminders who do overnight care have a moon to show they offer this. Also worth calling the number given for your area on this website as they will have a full list, including childminders who don't want to be listed on the net. Good luck

nannyogg, that is exactly what we are looking for, perfect in everyway, but really far away from us, we are in Southeast London, Kent really, and I am not confident driving very far!

Lulumama, no meds, havn't needed them for many, many years, I am sleeping at night, even if broken sleep, but too stressed to sleep in the day when he sleeps.

I will look into getting some daytime relief asap, but it takes time to visit places etc, looking for something right now and then will find him a childminder or something for an afternoon a week!

I remember after having ds1, I was very teary and I could cry anywhere at anytime at the drop of a hat. Just through sheer exhaustion.

Nannyoggs found what I was thinking of.

Why not go for a childminder in your area. Get some days in first, you can nap and then get the odd night in here and there with them?

lulumama, I love him so much and he is so wonderful, but i need a break!!!

Thanks for your comforting words, my big fear is letting him down in some way.

NBheebiegeebies, I will, I just need something for this week too, have to do something immediatly. The only alternative is imposing on my SIL and since she is going on holiday in a couple of days time, thats really not fair!

I know how hard it can be - but dont worry as you are not letting him down at all! Everyone needs a bit of a break sometimes.

I know Im a bit far away, but there is a really nice spa near me and Im a registered Ofsted childminder with some afternoons free if that helps?

Im just near Junction 9 on the M25.

If you need me then just let me know!!

Hope you feel better soon

Lucy
