How long do ADs take to work?

On Citilopram. GP told me it will take two weeks to kick in. Have felt better in myself after about three days of taking them. Not sure if it's the tabs or not. Would be interested to hear from others who have taken anti-depressants. Thanks.

I'm on escitalopram. Guess it's similar??? It definitely took two weeks before I felt any benefit and during that two weeks I had really weird sleeping patterns and I think I felt sick too - can't remember exactly now. Anyway after 10 years on and off ADs of various kinds these are definitely the best I've had.{grin]. I'm on 20 mg a day and have been for about 6 months. Good luck!!!

Sparkler,
As i said on the other thread it took a while for me to feel the benefits as my anxiety levels were so high. Still when they calmed down i suppose I just stopped feeling so low. I stopped crying or needing to cry at every little thing (I was crying during neighbours ffs). I didn't wake up in the morning with that horrible heavy feeling already in my heart. I started to enjoy things in my life that had previously seemed to much to tolerate. Its hard to explain really - I just felt happier in general and felt a hopefullness and positiveness that I hadn't felt for months. It crept up on me though. there was no thunderbolt or anything like. Just slowly started to realise that things were getting better.

I feel calmer, not panicky, got my sense of humour back, libido up, don't feel so overwhelmed by life. just feel 'normal' really

I actually didn't get hysterical when I couldn't work out newborn ds's babygrow. That was how I knew, I just coped with life a bit better. The AD's gave me a really dry mouth, though.

Thanks everyone. I have had a couple of pretty good days but today feeling a bit low again. Guess it'll be like this for another couple of weeks. Haven't had so much to keep me occupied today so that hasn't helped much.

Stick with it Sparkler - I was on Cipralex for a while - felt much better after only a couple of days, but still slept badly and felt a bit sick - which undermined the good effect.

Not such a good day again. I really felt good a few days ago and thought things were improving.

ime they take up to 4-6 weeks to kick in, but if you're feeling better after three days who cares if it's the ADs or placebo effect!

They do usually take 2-3 weeks,I think. I was told to go back to doctors after 3 weeks, which I did and when I said I wasn't feeling any better, she changed them. This happened 2 or 3 times until I found one that suited me. I started off on Citilopram and am now on Venlafaxine. Well, am now coming off Venlafaxine...
Good luck,I hope you feel better soon!!
