A stupid thing set me off in a panic attack. DH forgot to take his mobile to work with him. Just seeing it still sat there on the worktop 10 minutes after he left just set me off. How stupid am I??? The thought of not being able to get hold of him, or even to send him a text message to say how I am feeling. I feel even more cut off from reality than usual now. I'm walking around in a bit of a daze trying to get the kids ready for school. I don't want to have to go out but they didn't go on friday cos I had a panic attack.

I'm so sorry you feel like this. Is dh aware of panic attacks? You really need to talk to someone GP maybe or family member. Sounds like you need a bit of ME time. I used to get panic attacks and since having dd 6months ago i still get panicky but I force myself out of house. I've got a book somewhere which is about panic attacks a friend who had gone through same thing gave to me I could send it to you if would help..!

Why don't you have a nice relaxing bath while ds is sleeping? Put in some lavender oil if you've got it. Are there no mners near you?

Would you feel brave enough to go to a mother and toddler group?

Report
eeyore123 · 17/01/2005 10:10

no not really. There is only one around here and its awful. I have been before and nobody talked to me. They are all a lot older than me and it does cause problems round here.

Are there no other young mums near you then? We have loads round here and they have their own groups. Maybe your HV will know of a group that you haven't heard of.

eeyore, you sound like you def. need a trip to the GP.

You also must get out and about, invite someone round. They don't have to have children the same age as yours. Remember in the toddler group if they ignored you, you also ignored them.

Have you got a local NCT group you could join? They are for Mums feeing a bit low just like you, you don't have to have a new baby to be part of it.

I joined the NCT over 9 years ago when I had a new baby and knew not a soul and didn't even know how to look after him properly. They have been a lifeline to me and I continue to support their work.

I am already on ADs. Started them this week. I have been on the mama site and there aren't any groups that I can realistically get to

Just reading your thread , and totally sympathise eeyore. BTW I love eeyore !! Have you thought about hypnotherapy or cbt ?? I had SEVERE and acute panic attacks at the begining of jan 04,with fitting and all sorts of nasty problems. I now dont get them at allas hav had about 9mths of weekly hypnotherapy. I feel it is beneficial to have therapy alongside ads as it helps to stop a reoccurance and teaches you about why you have this feeling and what you can do to calm and relax. I know how you feel though and understand why going out sometimes is a daunting task, especially if like me you have got agraphobia alongside the panic attacks. I like to hide myself at home and not go out , unless with dh sometimes. But if you met me youd think , she doesnt appear that way in person!! I just swallow hard and try and dive in socially.

i thought if you emailed them they would get someone to contact maybe come and visit you at home esp if you explain you cannot get to the groups

Report
eeyore123 · 17/01/2005 15:50

I have emailed them a few times but never hear anything back. Just that they will let me know if a group becomes available in my area.
