Increased medication and made mistake at work

I have a fairly senior legal job and report in to a demanding and hypercritical boss.

For about a year now I’ve been struggling with depression and things took a turn for the worse this week. I spoke to my psychiatrist on the phone yesterday who increased my meds steeply and suggested I also take some lorazepam to calm my anxiety.

Today, in the first day of increased meds I got myself in a complete muddle and produced a legal document which I shared with my boss which was incoherent and totally unusable.

Ideas for how to address this. I’m due to speak to psychiatrist again first thing on Monday to discuss whether to add in some new medication on top of what I’m already taking so I may or may not be in a better place next week or still adjusting to the new meds.

I had 6 weeks off with this depression this time last year so a further period signed off for the same thing isn’t an option as my DH is also currently out of work so I’m the only wage earner.

What if anything should I say to my boss?

So sorry to hear you are feeling this way.
Is there no way you could talk to your boss about how you have been feeling? Even without going in to too much detail, or is there someone else at work you would prefer to speak to?
Just thinking perhaps it would be better for you to broach the subject with your boss before they say anything to you - when you have mentioned the paper you gave them today.

Is there no way at all you could even take a couple of weeks off work, just to get a little breathing space? I understand how difficult it is, especially when money is a factor.

Stay strong - you can do it.
