Has anybody’s teen been prescribed Beta Blockers with Fluoxetine?1

My 16 has found Fluoxetine has helped depression a little but not the crippling anxiety. More Fluoxetine or Beta Blockers have been mentioned in order to access talking therapy.

On reading it appears BB only treat physical symptoms so wondering what the point is and if they do anything.

The point is that I dont spend hours on the toilet having nervous poos. Don't have constant tummy aches from stress or tight chest from anxiety. I'm not always shaking and short of breath on the edge of a panic attack from too much adrenaline.

Easing the physical symptoms actually counts for quite a lot. There is no point in talking therapy if your teen is so anxious and stressed that they can't really open up and aren't able to take in a word that is said to them. The symptoms need to be brought under control before the root cause can be addressed.

BB does only treat the physical symptoms BUT when you're having a panic attack and your heart rate is 90bpm rather than 160bpm, it stops it from being a real panic attack and you can settle down and do your grounding and get through it.

Brains and bodies are full of two-way interactions.

On the flip side, beta blockers made me feel like absolute shit, tired all the time, so I ditched them after talking to the docs again.

"real" is probably the wrong word. "Runaway" panic attack maybe? Anyway, with the lower heart rate it doesn't become an all-consuming thing and you can cope with it.

Atofan he’s had a lot of headaches on Flux.

Thanks for the info, sounds as if they’re worth a try. He’s v tired anyway but maybe because he is hyper stressed all day. Maybe he won’t be any more tired in BB if his body gets a break.

Hello nothingcanhurtme

(Sorry to jump on the back of your thread OP)

I just wondered, did the BB stop you from shaking? I suffer from AWFUL nervous/anxiety shakes but don't know anything about BB

Yes they did. All the physical manifestations of anxiety, they stop.
