Obsessive thoughts

Hi everyone I hope you are all doing okay or as well as you can be.

I wonder does anyone share this annoying trait of mine that I have had since very young.

When I find something I like usually by accident, such as a song or a tv show or even a book,I get obsessed with it to the point of distraction.

There are some positives in that I have learned a lot about a variety of subjects from languages to different cultures I would never have delved into otherwise.

But sometimes the sheer physical feeling the high almost becomes tedious and annoying.

I'm not young at all this has been going on for years! But I am getting tired of it now. I just want to enjoy things without being pulled in.

I do have some autistic traits but not diagnosed.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope it makes sense

Have you been assessed for autism? I always have an obsession, as does my daughter. Mine is my pet chickens hahahahaha Hers is cuttlefish. I was diagnosed at 43!x

Thanks for answering cheekymouse. I haven't as yet but might go for it just to help me understand better I suppose. Cuttlefish are fab!

I’m not autistic. I’m also not young! My son has pointed out that I do get obsessed about things. And I delve into every subject that piques my interest. I’m naturally curious but there is an element of obsession that I’ve had since childhood. It’s very often musicians/ bands. I go to see them a lot when I discover someone new. Then I find out everything possible about them. Trivia that doesn’t matter. Not sure if that’s of any interest to you!

Thanks Cissyandflora oh my I have been so obsessed with various musicians in the past and like you have to find out every little detail about them. Maybe as you say there is that natural curiosity which is a good thing I suppose! I seem to get on a high when I have a new obsession which can be a little wearing!

Yes I don’t think it’s necessarily an unhealthy thing. I suppose it depends whether the obsession takes over too much of your life. Personally I’ve always got time for plenty of obsessions! And I don’t discuss them with people very much. Apart from my children who are used to me!

Yes I do and have always done this. I have EUPD but I do have some traits of autism though I doubt enough for a diagnosis.
New obsessions always coincide with manic episodes for me.

Thanks for your comment squirrelnut. It's reassuring to know others experience this too. I have been somewhat manic in the past and very impulsive in the pursuit of my interests. Definitely a lot to think about! Hope you're keeping well
