How to build community & friendships during Covid

Before the pandemic, I was looking forward to joining some local sports/activity groups, and volunteering more with my child's school, in order to try and make friends and feel more connected within my community.

But of course, this has all gone out the window. I still really crave this connection and participation, but it seems impossible at the moment and I'm unsure what to do.

No groups are running and won't be for the foreseeable future. I've enquired about volunteering for various organisations as well, but nobody is taking on new volunteers due to social distancing.

I have acquaintances locally but really need to feel part of a larger group/activity/cause at the moment, outwith my immediate family, and not virtually. My need for this is not met through my current job, either.

Any ideas? What would you do? Do I just need to wait it out? It's frustrating and getting me down.

Things that you can do while social distanced...local conservation work? I saw a flyer locally for this. Is your gym open? Local beginners running club-Couch to 5k? Mine is up and running again.

Or setting something up yourself. Have you looked at meetup.com? Lot's of things on there. Language exchange cafes are fun.

Ps don't be disheartened, consider all options, maybe pick something short term, like a class.
