Can't shower because of the voices

Hi, I have schizophrenia and have a lot of difficulty being able to shower because of the voices mocking me if I even think about it and they are really horrible. I wait as long as I possibly can and then have to really force myself and even then have to keep my underwear on. Does anyone experience the same and have any advice? Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear that. Have you spoken to a GP about this? Whatever it is the voices are saying, I bet they are wrong about you!

That sounds very distressing. What support do you get with your mental health, do you have a regular contact you could get advice from?

Thank you, yes it is. I have a psychiatrist but only see them about twice a year.

Is strip washing any easier? Or can you drown the voices out with music?

Oh dear, that isn't very helpful.

What do you need today? Ideas for staying clean without using the shower?

I don't know what advice is right for helping you with the voices- I'm worried about saying the wrong thing, and to make things worse.

Can you call for a medication review?

Can you call the crisis team? As not being able to wash is not great for your wellbeing. Do you feel your medication is working for you? This sounds really hard op. flowers

Help you managed to get through one, or if not a strip wash
Good idea about music, would that work for you?

Is that an nhs psych? Twice a year is ridiculously low, is that because it suits you that amount?

It’s a switch you desperately want to turn off isn’t it
How do they usually stop? So you can do everyday things, or is it just related to showering?

I can’t imagine the distress you must go through, it’s bad enough with ruminating thoughts going round your head from anxiety 😢 that you know are not true and thoughts getting out of control. But ramp up your anxiety no end dealing with that for me is distressing

I do understand To a point. But obviously not the same
Have you got anyone that’s at home(lives with you) ?? That could perhaps talk to you through the door ?
