Hiya second post of mine! The last few weeks I came off fluoxetine with the help of my GP. The reason for this was wanting to be off them to try for another baby in the next few months. Already have a 2 year old. Everything came to a head the last few days and long story short I've come to realise that I really do need to be on them. I didn't realise how much they helped me and how much I needed them till I came off them. We've put the baby plans on hold for now. I'm just a bit confused as my GP said it was ok to go back on them if I did become pregnant and my depression/anxiety came back. However I've looked online and all I see is articles about birth defects etc. Has anyone gotten pregnant while taking Prozac and had a good experience and healthy baby? Sorry for the rant! Thanks xx

I stayed on Prozac for two pregnancies. The DC, now 16 & 19, are both fine.

I used to be on fluoxetine but came off a few months before getting pregnant (20 weeks now). Had been on it for YEARS and been wanting to come off and thought I was fine, the last few weeks I'm just sad, teary and anxious all the time and worried I do need to go back on them. I really don't want to though as even mentioning being anxious to my midwife was pulled up as a risk factor for a birth centre (I've now been told it's fine) and apparently if you're on anti-depressants it has to be a hospital birth, whihc I really really don't want and would def make me more anxious all the way through pregnancy and birth. I've read conflicting stuff too, that SSRIs are fine to be prescribed and then other places saying they're not. Midwife referred me to an antenatal clinic for 'more support' but haven't heard anything from them yet. Logically I know me not being stressed and down will be better for baby in the long run but I still really don't want to go back on them and nothing else is ever offered.

Ah I feel for you I really do. I was off mine my whole pregnancy and my god did I know it. Towards the end I was extremely extremely anxious. You're half way there so you should be proud of yourself how far you've come without them. If you really feel you need them I would definitely speak with your midwife / GP. Don't understand how a tablet a day affects where you have your baby. Surely that's your decision no one else's?

I was on Prozac all the way through my pregnancy. I had a conversation with my obsterician and while there are risks they are very small and MUCH smaller than how sick I would get not being on them and the risk of a serious PND crash and not being able to bond with my baby after she was born

she was born perfect

Hi! I was the same as you but different meds. Came off anti depressants to get pregnant but needed them pretty urgently again and was prescribed amitryptyline while pregnant. Was v low dose and reassured better for baby and me to have stable mood. Was definitely the right decision and stayed on them even through breast feeding. Good luck.

Hi , I took Prozac throughout my pregnancy and my daughter is now 12 and always been very healthy. She was growing normally but delivered 3 weeks early by emergency c section and 5 pounds 4. This was due to me having pre eclampsia. I don't know if there is a connection between the two but that's my story . Good luck x
