A family member has severe depression and is struggling. I'm not sure how much I can help as a busy mum but I've been to visit recently and make sure they know I'm available to visit or tall if needed.
I've struggled with mental health issues so I feel I do understand the pain somewhat.
My relative recently was in crisis, my own parents (Her grandparents) were with me at the time. Her mum called me and explained.. when I told my mother she simply rolled her eyes and was like 'for God's sake. I have various issues with this behaviour but do I just accept that some people are less accepting about MH issues? She has always been fairly cynical about MH issues, is it just a generational thing? To see her be so dismissive is So hard for me. It brings back memories of her not really having any time for my MH struggles which I largely had to face on my own.

I'm from your mother's generation and I'd say that when we were young, we were expected to toughen up and get on with life. Don't be too harsh in judging your mother - she just doesn't have the understanding that you have.
