Anxiety medication recommendations

I have PTSD from being spiked on a night out, I don't drink or take any medication (not even paracetamol or coffee) because it makes me panic. However, I feel that I'm not managing the panic attacks and anxiety successfully any more as I haven't left the house in two months and I have my brothers wedding to go to abroad in a few months and can't imagine being able to get on a plane and not panic about not being able to leave. Can anyone share their experiences with anxiety medication? Whether short or long term? Thank you

You have my sympathies, I too have PTSD and it's awful.

For flights, the GP prescribes me Diazepam for my anxiety. It works and I can relax and enjoy the flight.

For day to day anxiety, I take beta blockers anyway for a heart condition. The GP has said I'm able to double the dose if needed and so if I feel particularly panicky, I take one of those. They don't stop the feeling but do take the edge off it.

If you don't mind me asking, do they make you feel different in any way? Like drowsy or drunk or anything?

The Diazepam make you a bit sleepy but totally relaxed. It's actually quite a nice feeling!

GPS are reluctant to prescribe them though as they're so addictive, and I only get 4 tablets prescribed before a flight.

i love a diazepam here and there, but not often at all, as i dont want to get used to them

I also get prescribed fluanxol, which works well on an as and when basis, but if i start taking it all the time, then i think it works less well, and makes me feel flat and unhappy, but here and there is fine.

Im interested to hear what others have tried, as mine seems to be really hard to control lately and im having a bad time a lot.

taking 5htp again actually and that seems to be helping a bit
