Types of trauma therapy

What is the best type of therapy/counselling to recommend to someone who has had trauma but doesn’t have traditional ptsd (flashbacks, anxiety etc) rather gone down the shut down, denial, withdrawal type behaviour? What works in this kind of instance?

I experienced trauma as a child but didn't have PTSD. I had a therapist who was training in multiple types of therapy - so a bit CBT, with talking therapy etc. Ideally you want a psychiatrist to recommend the right type of therapy.

EMDR is a powerful and quick treatment. CBT for trauma is also evidence based.

Thank you both
I need to know what to steer my oh towards - he’s thinking of seeking help but won’t go to the gp. Will book a private appointment with a therapist though.
I’ve had narrative exposure therapy and emdr but I don’t think he would open up like I do on the talking side
Not sure what cbt would involve for him

He seems to have depression more than ptsd

Google Schema Therapy OP.

Good for things gone wrong in childhood and as a result the coping strategies still affecting him as an adult.
All the best!
