Was taken into hospital today with suspected appendicitis. It isn't appendicitis as it turns out but they don't really know what. The thing in my mind is how stressed I have been at work - can it manifest itself like this? (Lower abdominal pain) sorry if that's a stupid question I just don't know. Have had horrendous few weeks at work. Also definitely not pregnant.any ideas?

I think it can yes. My ex used to have agonising stomach pain, cramps, being sick and be really iIl to the point of going to a&e. He suffered with his MH and he'd always have a flare up when he was stressing. No physical cause was ever found.

Are you male? Was going to suggest a burst ovarian cyst if you’re female.
IBS can cause agonising stomach cramps in the colon which could be what you felt? It can really flare up when stressed and make you feel very unwell

Hi thanks for replies, no definitely female and also definitely not pregnant! Verdict was inflamed lymph nodes in stomach but am convinced it's more and linked to how stressed I have been. They did mention an ovarian cyst but did not do internal scan to check fully only external. I'm feeling a lot better now but occasional dull aches still. Thanks

Where exactly is the pain? If it’s just below the hip bones and to the centre a bit then it could be ovarian cysts. Above the hip on the right hand side could your colon. And left hand side could be colon or if a bit higher up on that side could be stomach. Higher up on the right could be gallbladder which can be very painful. Have you had things like bloating and trapped wind? Could be an IBS stress thing. Also where are you in your menstrual cycle? I get really bad pains for about 3 days around ovulation, and also a couple of days before period.

On the right, literally where the appendix would be. No more bloating or wind than usual. On mini pill so no cycle.Do have PCOS but this has not been checked since second baby.

Sounds like colon pain then as part of it runs by where the appendix is. I had really bad stomach pains there and thought it was appendicitis too and went to hospital. Was able to see a gastroenterologist who said it was a common area for people to get pains and feel sick during times of anxiety. Had a colonoscopy done to rule out anything sinister and nothing was found

Is the lower abdominal pain frequent or at certain times of the day or week? Does the pain worsen when you walk or lie down? And are there other symptoms you have OP? E.g. nausea, light headedness, tightness in chest, reflux etc.

Could be gallstones or gstritis, but best to let the doctors work out what it is. Anxiety can definitely manifest as stomach pain, but if it keeps up, see your GP
