My baby is 4months old. While my periods have not returned, the past 2 months ( so when baby was coming up to 3 and 4 month "birthday") I've felt incredibly low and teary for a few days. Doesn't look like pnd when I researched it. Anyone else had pms type symptoms like this at set intervals and did your periods return soon. Exclusively breast feeding.

I had PMT symptoms, which were far worse than I'd ever had pre baby, every month but no period until DD was eating more when BLW so at about 7 months. Then I didn't have another until she was 12 months and I had one last month too so I think they are back for good now, although I am still breastfeeding. I was getting horrendous cramping, issues with bowel movements and quite severe depressive feelings for a few days, expecting my period to arrive and nothing. I was vaguely tracking it and it did correspond to my cycle. I'm having a mirena coil put in soon and I hope that will deal with some of my symptoms and balance out my hormones.

You should go to the GP though if it is really effecting you OP, they may be able to help or reassure you. It's still not long since you gave birth and breastfeeding will be having an effect on hormones too.

I breast fed each of mine for 2+ years and it took over a year for my periods to come back each time.

I don't know if this would be linked to your cycle, but I do know that it is a very emotional, exhausting, life-changing, exhilarating, and profoundly moving time of life when you have a 3-4 month old. I guess you just have to be kind to yourself and not expect too much.

Sorry not to be more helpful- just wanted to answer in some way-

Exclusively breastfed both of mine yet periods returned straight away, unfortunately. I had severe antenatal anxiety and depression with dc2 which has helpfully turned into what I think is PMDD. I'm an absolute mess in the days leading up to my period.
