As title says really. When did you get help for your mental illness? What was it that made you realise you needed help?

The first time I had depression I was at uni. I cried all over my tutor and she refered me to the councellor at student services. A few months into the councelling I realised I needed more help because I felt so low and it wasn't improving, the GP started me on ADs which saved my life. I've never let myself get that low again as soon as I feel like Im starting to dip I get myself back to the GP. I'm lucky to be able to self refer to councelling through work as soon as I realise I'm struggling too.

Than you anxious carer. I too am at uni and feeling rather low and unable to cope and don't feel like I want to do it anymore but I've always put it down to me been silly or having a weak moment and I should pull myself together.
I've never known how to put it to a GP about how I'm feeling. I went last year and kinda got fobbed off a bit but this year I am pretty much the same Sad

Definately try seeing the GP again. There are some questionairres you can get online for anxiety and depression, you could fill these in and print them out to take with you as a starting point. Also see if you can see a councellor through student services, the waiting list is normally shorter than NHS.
