Citalopram vs sertraline help!

I was on sertraline for about 8 months 3 years ago for depression after my marriage broke down and apart from the spaced out feeling at the beginning I never had any side effects.
I have just been prescribed citalopram as I feel the depression has returned along with some anxiety and am supposed to start taking it today, however I'm a little worried as the dr said the side effects can make you feel extremely anxious/panicky and prescribed diazepam to take just incase I do.
What is the diff between sertraline and citalopram? Is one a stronger AD than the other? Anyone have any experience using citalopram?

Thanks

I have taken both, and have also tried escitalopram.

Why did they move you from the Sertraline if that worked in the past? I would ask to go back onto it if it worked before and there was no reason for the change.

People's side effects can vary but I did have some increased anxiety on citalopram for a couple of days, but it was manageable. It didn't last long at all.

I don't believe one SSRI is necessarily more effective than each other, it's just more about finding one which works for you and doesn't give you bad side effects.

I stopped on citalopram because I was starting to feel emotionless. I function emotionally better on sertraline.

I wasn't on sertraline for very long & weaned myself off after about 8 months. That was 3 years ago & the doctor I saw the other day is a private one at work (so not the one that prescribed sertraline last time).
I wordered if she had put me on citalopram because it was different to sertraline in some way but obviously not!
Im on 10mg a day and 2 days in, feeling a bit spaced out & drowsy with some headaches but not too bad.
I don't want to feel emotionless though that's the whole point of me going on them!!!

I have taken both and found them both to be good. I think everyone is different and you need to find what works for you
