Counselling have discharged me :(

I've been having counselling (CBT techniques) for anxiety. Counselling have discharged me for failing to attend my appointment on Tuesday - I thought it was next week, I wouldn't have chosen a Tuesday slot since I thought I was going back to work and I work Tuesdays. I am upset and frustrated. I have rung and left a message asking if I can get back in the system. I get the whole 'one strike and you're out' but surely there should be some consideration? I'm dyslexic and my planning goes out the window when I'm stressed. This has not helped my anxiety at all.

Hopefully they'll ring back to say yes. I imagine they will. I had the same thing with physio before I thought the appointment was the following week, phoned to apologise and they let me book another appointment. If not did your GP refer you? Could they re refer you?

Thanks for replying.

I've talked to them and they said 'yes your appointment was Tuesday'. I have never had a Tuesday appointment- must have been a miscommunication between me and the counsellor. She's arranged for him to call me on Monday (he's off today) to see if we can sort it. If not, I'll ask the GP to refer me again. I still need more help at the moment.

I think with any NHS appointment, not just counselling, if you miss an appointment they automatically (or threaten to) discharge you back to your GP.

If you can, really push back with your councillor to get you reinstated (which they should be able to do). If you ask to be (re)referred by your GP you may have the to join the waiting list again.

I just feel like it's pushed me right back. I've had a bad day with thoughts of self harm (never act on them).

Even if I did need to get back on the waiting list it was only about 2 weeks (shocking right?) so it's not so bad.

Hopefully you will get things sorted on Monday, not long to wait Smile

Yes. Got a family do tomorrow so that'll keep my mind occupied.
